Helen
from
Moler

Millions of years ago (well almost) at a little place, called the "Blackbox", bree-cod had a bit of a chat with Helen Cattanach from the delightful Melbourne band...Moler

Influences
From things like the Beastie Boys, to John Spencer Blues Explosion, to blondie, to Dinosaur Jr...they''re the main ones...Sonic Youth i guess...there's a few

What's your favourite blondie album?
I guess Parallel Lines, but that's the only one i've got so..hey, i know i'm missing out on a few good songs that aren't on Parallel lines....

How did Moler get their name?
It was one of those boring situations where we had a piece of paper and wrote about twenty million names out, and then we went through them and went nah, nah, nah, nah...until we got three...The other guys all agreed on Moler so we ended up keeping it. It was actually spelt with an 'a' (Molar), but we ended up changing it on the posters cause it looked better as an 'e'.

What's your favourite gig that you've played?
We played with Ash...I love the old Ashters...that was pretty good, but i felt like such a ...i dunno..a teenage groupie when i met them and went up with their records "could you sign this?".

Have you got any favourite fanzines?
Fanzines, yeah. We get one sent to us from a girl called Astro Girl...you can get that in Sydney, in Phantom Records. They're really cute, she does really cute drawings and little interviews and they're always different every issue; the format of it. We've had quite a few sent to us, one called Spammy....

What are your favourite Australian bands?
Ummm...Gaslight Radio - i love their new single. Jebediah and Grinspoon - though i haven't seen either of them live. Spiderbait are OK, but i'm not a huge fan, but they're ok

How do you Kill the Cod?
By getting a whole lot of people in a boat and pushing them all overboard so that the Cod would try and eat them all and just get bloated and die
