Custard
David
McCormack from Custaro
The
Cod caught up with Dave after Custards’ entertaining performance at Glenworth
Valley.
We
chatted about his new wife, Emma, the new album, and rednecks’; among
other things.
What
stuff have you been listening to lately?
Ohhh... my wife and
I do lots of salsa dancing now...
So
are you married or engaged?
Married yeah...I’ve
got her name tattooed on my arm, but I can’t show you it’s too high up...
When’s
your new album out?
In March. I haven’t
got a name for it yet but it’s got 13 songs, I know that much.
It
has to start with a ‘W’ doesn’t it?
No, I don’t think it
will this time. The last three times were accidental. Like accidentally
on purpose.
What’s
your favourite Australian bands?
Snout, The Fauves,
Tism, You Am I... oh, you know, they’re all good. I like all of them.
What’s
your favourite telly shows?
The Simpsons, sometimes
Seinfeld, but not too often. And the Movie Show, and I used to like Media
Watch but I don’t like it as much now that Stuart Littlemore isn’t doing
it.
Are
you guys going to tour overseas after your new album is released?
Maybe, yeah, maybe.
We might ...I don’t know if I’m really keen to tour overseas forever again...
we did three months and it was quite a long time.
Was
that America?
Yeah, America and Canada.
Never been to Europe. Maybe I’d like to go to Europe for a little while.
Oh look the suns’ just gone down. Why couldn’t it go down when we were
playing? Bad bad.
Sally- I’ve got
a sunburnt neck.
D- sore neck? Redneck.
S- My neck’s really
sunburnt ‘cause I was....
Redneck!
How
do you Kill the Cod?
Pardon?
br- Our zine’s called
Kill the Cod
Oh yeah. I like it,
I saw it before. It’s got two or three pictures of me in it, that’s all
I saw. They’re small but they’re good.
What’s
your favourite gig that you’ve played?
Today! I like the most
recent one, the one most recent in my memory. Matthew was very drunk today.
Here comes my wife... we’ve only known each other six months, we got married
very quickly. It’s all good.
How
do you Kill the Cod?
With a hammer. A hammer
to the head.
Custard-
Loverama
These
guys just keep getting kitsch-ier(you know what I mean). ? Even though
there’s less of the fast poppy stuff which I used to love (i.e. Golden
Age of Nicotine) you’ve still gotta love songs like Girls like That, Hitsong,
and of course my favourite, Ringo (he lives at a disco but goes home to
the suburbs). The last track, Ladies and Gentlemen, is also a favourite.
Last time I saw these guys play they did a memorable cover of Dire
Straits “Money For Nothing”. ….dane….
