| Interview with Curtis Zeissel of Infliction Interviewed by Chad Fletcher 1. How and when did Infliction start? Ben Garcia (drums) and I (Curtis Zeissel-Guitar) hooked up around 1990. He was in a band called O.D. and i was in a band called Sacred Fate, which were both thrash bands. I wanted to jam with a drummer who could play double bass, and Ben was the only guy around who could so I joined O.D. Later that band broke up and we recruited a badass guitarist named Ronnie Francies (RIP). We called ourselves Disorder. Ronnie was killed in a car accident, and we ended up having Ramon Cazares joining on vocals/guitar. He brought in a bassist, Reymondo Campos, from his previous band (Calavera) a year later. We went totally death metal and changed our name to INFLICTION. A few years later we added Pablo Gonzalez on vocals. Pablo used to watch us jam when he was a kid, but he really learned how to do gutturals. 2. Were any of you in previous bands? Sacred Fate, O.D., Disorder and Calavera. 3. Who are your main influences? Our death metal influences would be Death, Disincarnate, Suffocation, Deeds Of Flesh, early Dying Fetus, Gorgasm, Beheaded, Psycroptic, Necrophagist and the list goes on. 4. How would you describe Infliction's sound? We try to be as brutal as possible with breakdowns and technicality. 5. How would you describe Infliction's live show? We've always been a band that feeds off live energy from the crowd. Live shows are always more intense than what you hear from a recording. 6. How did you guys end up on Dead World Syndicate Records? We met Joe like 4 or 5 years ago, before he had the Dead World Syndicate label. We were actually signed to TXDM records and then Hound quit the biz and Joe was waiting, but we were friends with him way before we ever did business with him. 7. In your opinion, how does the Texas metal scene compare to the rest of the country? We haven't been to every state in the U.S., but i would say that Texas is very comparable to Albuquerque,NM in that people support the local shows very well usually. 8. Any plans for a tour in the near future? We have been on a couple of mini tours and with the release of our next cd, we should be pimping it everywhere we can. Hopefully across the waters too. 9. What inspires Infliction's lyrics? When we first started out, we did gore style lyrics. There's alot of bands doing that now, so we've changed to writing about other things in life. We really try to stay away from religion and politics too, and try writing about deeper shit going on in this world. 10. Besides music, what do you do for fun? PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!!! Actually, everyone in the band has different interests, but we all get fucked up every now and then. 11. Where do you see Infliction in 5 years? Hopefully with a few more quality CD's released and playing the US and abroad quite frequently. 12. Thanks alot for the interview. Any final comments? Yeah, thanks Chad for keeping this shit sick!!! www.infliction.us www.myspace.com/inflictionus www.dwsrecords.us |
