Interview with Corey "Boo" Gruesome of Ecto-1 Interviewed by Chad Fletcher

1. How and when did Ecto-1 form?
Ecto-1 started in summer of 2003. I was tiring of trying to keep a steady lineup with EERiE Ln. and knew a couple guys who were having the same problem with their musical ventures. Those guys of course being Ryan and Dallas.

2. How does Ecto-1 differ from your previous band, EERiE Ln.?
Ecto-1 is a conscious effort to make more atmospheric type songs as opposed to the just balls out HATE of EERiE Ln. I like the guys i play with now, and that definately is a first.

3. Who are your biggest influences?
My personal influences differ greatly from that of each individual guy in Ecto-1 and i can only really speak for myself, but vocally i am very influenced by Rob Zombie's phrasing, Glenn Danzig's vocal deliveries and Max Cavalera's straight out roar. Lyrically I'm into Eerie Von stuff, Glenn Danzig of course, Dax Riggs, and the writings of H.P. Lovecraft and Clive Barker.

4. How would you describe a live Ecto-1 show?
It's totally different each and every time. It mainly depends on the crowd. We played in Britol,TN this past weekend and it was a total BLAST! Just up beat fun with everyone singing along with us. Some shows get more mean. Some shows are more dark and dirgey.

5. How has Antidote Records been treating you? How did you end up on that label?
Antidote has been good to us thus far. No complaints. Sin is easy to get ahold of and helps us out with any and everything we ask of him. Originally, he signed EERiE Ln. I started Ecto-1 right after EERiE Ln. so we just rolled over into Antidote Records after the break up.

6. In your opinion, how does the Dallas/Ft.Worth scene compare the the rest of the country?
This is one of those questions that when i answer it honestly i am going to catch alot of shit, but i'm too ignorant to know that honesty isn't always the best policy and i just plain don't give a fuck who gets angry. There isn't a scene in my opinion. There's a Ft.Worth scene that doesn't really have any clubs for the bands to actually play in and then there's the Dallas scene. I have nothing nice to say about the Dallas scene. In the 10 years plus i have been playing shows with various bands, it's always been better to play everywhere else. Lawton, Ok. has a dedicated scene. Bristol,Tn. has alot of cool people in it. Then there's my favorite...New Orleans!!!

7. Any plans for a tour in the future?
Tours are very expensive. If you don't have label tour support, you're going to go broke. I did an extended tour with EERiE Ln. and that helped to really push us apart and lead to the inevitable destruction of the band. We have to be able to pay rent and bills when we get home. We all have day jobs, wives/girlfriends, so until we get tour support, i doubt a long tour is feesible. But we do intend to play everywhere eventually by continuing to play out of town on the weekends we get good offers by areas/bands who want to see or play with us, and we do just fine that way. 3/4ths of the gigs Ecto-1 has played since we've been together have been by invitation. In 2 years time, without a proper tour, we have played in TN, Vegas, New Orleans, all over Texas. We're about to play in Utah and Colorado next month with all sorts of shows pending for this summer.

8. Do you ever believe that you will get EERiE Ln. back together?
I certainly hope not. I'm in a horror-rock band now that does a few EERiE Ln. classics. The band is called the HORRIFICS.

9. What inspires you to write lyrics?
The darker side of things. I'm really into the occult and supernatural subjects, especially the research of shape shifting in different religions and races.

10. Besides music, what do you do for fun?
I read alot of horror fiction and Asian philosophy as well as plenty of biographies on martial art fighters and martial art texts. I collect comics, I draw, I'm a purple belt in Ed Parker's system of American Kenpo Karate under 8th degree black belt Sifu Rick Fowler in Irving, Texas.

11. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Married. I'm getting married on Nov. 1st this year in New Orleans. Owning my own house. My fiancee and i just moved into a 2000 square foot house that we are buying in a historic area in Ft.Worth. With a kid, I really want to be a father. Having at least 3 more Ecto-1 CDs out and at least 2 discs with my other band, the HORRIFICS. I will be a black belt in Kenpo and will eventually pay my bills teaching at my own dojo i hope.

12. Thanks for the interview. Any final comments?
Be yourself at all costs people. Don't be afraid to chase your dreams. You may only have one life to live, so live it to the fullest. Fuck the bullshit!!!
