| Interview with Jason Quiram of Dead For Days Interview by Chad Fletcher How and when did Dead For Days get started? Dead For Days started in 99-00 with original member Kevin Schenk on bass. A year or two later he passed away, so i eventually took his place. Have any of you been in any other bands? Rick was in a band called Euphoric Evisceration, who were pretty big locally. They played with Deicide and Broken Hope, Opressor, Macabre etc. Matt used to be in a band called Disorder from Utah and he joined Dead For Days about a year ago. How would you describe Dead For Days' sound to someone who has never heard you before? I'd like to say we're Chicago Death Metal with alot of groove, but i'm sure that some of the other guys might have something else to say about it. Who are your biggest influences? Our influences range just for the fact that i'm into more hardcore shit like The Black Dahlia Murder, which is like hardcore/death metal, and then we have our guitarist Zack, who's straight from Poland so he's into Vader, Kataklysm, Napalm Death etc. Rick is more of a classical/technical listener: Dream Theater and Morbid Angel. So it's a huge range for us, to many to list. How did you guys end up on United Guttural? We were playing a show with Mortician and U.G. was there, and Forever Underground. At the end of the show, U.G. took the initiative and here we are!! How would you describe your live shows? We don't really do anything fancy except maybe a sample here and there, but we try to stick to the intense side musically. Rick is an amazing drummer, so we try to put some focus on him sometimes, but most of the time it's just great pit action. We've had a few broken limbs at our shows, so that's always a plus. In your opinion, how does the Chicago scene compare to the rest of the country? Fuckin terrible!! I don't know what happened, but there is no underground scene here anymore. I remember in the 90's you could get a huge show going with a couple death metal bands. The biggest problem was that all of the venues we played closed down within a 5 year period and just recently, some smaller places have let us play. Plus, there are hardly any bands around to support us in Chicago. Unless you're a band like Cannibal Corpse or Deicide, you're not gonna get into a good venue. But like i said earlier, it is getting a little better here with venues. What has been your most memorable moment with Dead For Days? There's been a few, but most recently we had a show with Macabre and Jungle Rot. The venue was pretty much sold out (400+),and we had 2 other bands play with us who were some of our closest friends, so it was a big fucking party!!!!! Not to mention, it was labor day weekend. What do you think, personally, of music being available for downloading on the net? I think it's good for promotion, especially for bands trying to get their shit out. Eventually, it does hurt certain people's pocket, i mean fuck J-LO and Jay-Z. They're so rich, it's retarded, but for other bands it sucks. I'm 50/50 on that situation. Where do you see Dead For Days in 5 years? Fuckin it up crazy style, going on our 4th album or something like that, and doing great shows. Hopefully we'll be hitting up Europe within that time. Thanks for the interview Jason, any final comments for the readers? Thanks for the support and go to www.deadfordays.com for the latest shit!!!!! |
