Interview with Rick Shirk of Defleshuary Interviewed by Chad Fletcher

1. How and when did Defleshuary start?
I (Rick) started this project in the summer of 2004, as a 1 man band. I was just messing around for fun and wrote some songs and recorded them. After that, some friends heard it and said they'd be willing to play in the band if I wanted to take it more seriously. Tim took over on drums and Kerm, who played in my previous band, took over on bass.

2. What bands have you been in besides Defleshuary?
I played drums in a band with our bassist called Genovese. Kerm played guitar in that band. I've also had various other projects that haven't done much.

3. Who are your biggest influences?
Mortician, Putrid Pile, Suffocation, Misfits and countless others.

4. How would you describe Defleshuary's sound?
A fan described it as "Mortician with better guitar work" and i took that as the biggest compliment ever because i am a huge Mortician fan.

5. How would you describe a live Defleshuary show?
Well, we have only played one show so far. People said we sounded good but i know damn well that we can do better.

6. Any plans for a new album in the near future?
This summer we plan on recording a new 4-5 song demo and maybe doing a split cd.

7. What's your local scene like?
For metal this area is really lacking. We have some people that are trying to change that though. I hope it turns around.

8. Will you guys be touring anytime soon?
Due to the members conflicting schedules, we most likely won't be doing any extensive touring any time soon.

9. Besdies music, what do you do for fun?
I play video games too much (mainly the Legend Of Zelda series), play basketball and ride bike.

10. Where do you see Defleshuary in 5 years?
Hopefully having a couple of albums out, a bigger fanbase, playing shows quite frequently and above all still having tons of fun!

11. Thanks for the interview! Any final comments?
Thanks a ton for the interview. You're actually our first interview, so i hope all the answers are substancial. Check out some of our songs on the net. -Rick
