| Straight-ahead Rock 'N'Roll never goes out of styleit may hide underground for awhile, but it keeps coming back. Killingbird delivers straight-ahead rock 'n' roll complete with killer hooks and attitude. In less than one year, Killingbird has gone from their trashy North Hollywood, CA rehearsal studio to a record deal with 2Ksounds. 2Ksounds has a joint venuture with Virgin Records and is distributed in the US by EMI Music Distribution. Killingbird was formed in Los Angeles, CA by Skyla, August, and Christian. Christian explains, "Skyla called me up and said he had some riffs he wanted me to hearwhat I heard was exactly what I was looking forkick-ass guitar rock. We started working immediately, I think we finished seven songs that day." August was instantly sold, "I heard Christian and Skyla's first few songs and I told them I was their guitar player." All they needed was a dedicated drummer and bassist. Luckily they didn't have to wait long Marc knew they guys because he had previously drummed on some early Skyla demos. Christian and August dug his style and thought it would be a perfect fit. After a night of some hardcore drinking , Marc was invited to join. "We figured it would be a good test to see if he stayed cool or became an ass when he got drunkhe passed. We already knew he could play", explains August. Then, Detroit buddy Gaz lost his job and had all his gear stolen. Christian got him on the phone and offered a solution, "Get your ass in your car, drive to LA and join our band! Dammit!". It worked. Three days later, Gaz was sleeping on Skyla's floor and learning the songs. Motivated to succeed, Killingbird wasn't going to wait around to get discovered. With faith in their songs, they began recording immediately. What began as a 3 song demo turned into a full-length record. A video for their take on The Cure classic "Just Like Heaven" followed. 2Ksounds liked what they heard and sawand the rest is history! Killingbird's songs explore the dark side of life. "Not Long Dead" and "Cocaine Tongue" describe watching close friends destroy themselves. "Little Flower" deals with addictionto someone or something and not wanting to give it up. Killingbird's music is not without hope, however. In "Better Day", Christian lets go of the past and embraces the future, "I wrote that about leaving behind my family and friends to pursue my crazy rock-n-roll dreams". "Sometimes You're Strange" encourages getting out of a mentally abusive relationship. With a #1 HIT at MP3.Com ("Little Flower") already under their studded leather belts, Killingbird is starting to turn heads at radio with the tracks "Cocaine Tongue" and "Just Like Heaven". Steve Ponchaud (WIMK-FM, Iron Mountain, MI) raves, "I played both songs during my rock show as a testlistener reaction was immediate'who is this, where can I buy it'that's unheard of in our area." |
