| Efrit called us into her study after an early morning battle with some wyverns. She was looking rather pleased with herself in a not-so-good kind of way. "Hello, have a good morning?" She asked cheerfully. "Er... no... we had to get up at five to fight monsters that stink literally, Janelle pointed out. "Oh, well, er, I hope the rest of your afternoon goes wonderfully," Efrit smiled. "What?" Fae asked suspiciously, "Is wrong?" "Well, see, tonight is the leap-year festival..." Efrit trailed off for a moment. This place had leap years, but their extra day was in the fall, today. "Aaaaaaaaand...?" Lev prompted. "And well, you are required to come to the ball, and you must wear formal attire." "Formal? That's not so bad... Nice pants, a slightly uncomfortable shirt, we can live with that..." Ulani replied. "No. I know I've always let you go in uniform before... But this is a very special celebration, only once every four years." "So you mean formal... Like with... skirts..." I squeaked. I hadn't worn a skirt in... years. "Skirts!?" Fae yelled. "How bout we make a deal, we wear skirts, but we get to choose what kind?" Tarana suggested. "Like minni skirts? I don't think so, if you'll follow me, you have some required outfits. The maid will get you some appropriate clothes." We followed the maid silently. Efrit was definitely not going to take any arguments. "Here we are!" the maid flung open a door. Nine model dummy things stood in a row. They were wearing what looked like the worst fashions from just before the French revolution. "Those things have hoopskirts!! What do you think we are!? We'll kill ourselves in those!" Heather exclaimed. On the last dummy was a horrible familiar tuxedo with lots of lace. "You said that was the most god awful outfit you'd ever laid eyes on!" Andrew exclaimed. "Oh, oops, wrong one!" A maid came forwards with something that had a cape and less lace. It wasn't much better. "Get into them, now. We need to make sure they fit right before the ball tonight." "Haha?" Someone laughed nervously. "I said, now!" the maid commanded sternly. We changed in stunned silence. Efrit had never made us do this. This was all either some horrible joke that would tie right in with Efrit's sense of humor, or the leap-year ball was more important than I'd thought. I finally managed to pull on the dress with the help of a maid. It was a mass of ribbons, lace and I think I saw something like silk under all the ribbons. "So... You look wonderful." I looked up, Lance was standing there snickering.(for those of you who aren't following this too closely, Lance is Estelle's boyfriend) "Har har," Estelle growled from the back of the room. "Well, look at all the ladies," Julian drawled, stressing the word ladies. "Shut up and go away," Fae muttered. "Hey, let's take bet's on who's gonna be the first to trip over their hoopskirts!" One of them, sounding suspiciously like Adrian although I couldn't see him, suggested. "Fae!" "Elyse!" Were the only two suggestions. "Go away!" Fae yelled. Julian opened his mouth to say something else when Fae lunged at him. He dodged out of the way. He didn't need to, Fae tripped over the hem of her dress, there was a loud ripping noise and a thud. "I win! I win the bet!" One of the guys exclaimed. Julian was laughing to hard to speak, he bent down to help Fae up. She took his hand and as soon as she was standing, threw him over her head. "And be glad I didn't kick you!" She yelled. "Think you're gonna trip next?" Adrian asked me. "I can do that too," I nodded towards Fae. "Okay... never mind..." "I AM NOT WEARING THIS!" Fae shrieked. "Yes you are." "No... I'm not," Fae is the only one of us who could blow things up with telekinesis. All eight outfits instantaneously went to shreds. The scraps settled to the floor softly like gigantic snowflakes. "Okay... maybe some less traditional outfits?" The maid suggested timidly. "Good idea," Fae hissed. "Ahh! Get out of here!" Estelle screamed suddenly. The guys were still there looking stunned. "Out!" A maid slammed the door. "Oh, good one Fae," I muttered. "Hey! It got rid of the outfits!" "Here!" The maid came back with a rack of dresses. "The queen said that if you weren't wearing traditional outfits then you had to wear an outfit that reflected your powers." I rolled my eyes. At least this would be better than the first ones. "I get to do the choosing, but I'll consider your input," The maid said. "Green for you, Ivy... Gold for you, Sun... Red, no, black, for Flame... Black, Rhythm... White, Lightning..." "Er... can I have something blue?" Lev asked. "Hmm, I guess." "Can I have a dark red dress with black lace and stuff?" I asked. "What does that have to do with the moon?" The maid asked crossly. "Nothing, but I look good in dark red, and I've always kinda wanted a dress like that..." "No, yours will be silver, very gauzy... Here!" She held up something that reminded me of a jellyfish. "Black! With silver trim!" I commanded. "Fine," the maid sighed. "Then this silver will go to you Hurricane... and gold for paw I think... Hmm..." "Er, what does black have to do with flame?" Fae asked. "You'll see." The maid held her hand out over Fae's dress and the colors changed. They flowed from her hand red, gold, yellow, and orange. "Try this on." Fae took the dress and slipped it on. It was very tight and black (ahem, after three or four years of fighting and junk as KPs we are actually in shape and reasonably skinny) all the way down until just below the knees where it fanned out and changed colors. From about the knees down there were flames that swished around as Fae walked. "Hey that looks cool!" Heather exclaimed. "I'm gonna tip over!" Fae whined. "And for you..." The maid held up a dress in front of Tarana. It looked just like Fae's had. This time the maid put in neon blues and purples that shimmered slightly. Ulani's dress was fluffy and yellow with al sorts of gold lace. Ulani grumbled a lot but didn't say anything much out loud. "And for you..." She gave Heather a green dress with gold fringes and I got a black dress with silver fringes and stuff. Janelle got the jellyfish with some blue swirls on it. Lev got a blue dress with yellow-green fringes that looked like lightning. Then the maid got to Estelle. Estelle got the most... interesting... dress. It was all gold with spaghetti straps and a long slit up the side. and a long boa of golden brown feathers. "Er, that looks... interesting..."Janelle commented. Estelle looked at herself in the mirror and burst out laughing. "You want me to wear this?" "Yes." "Ha ha!" Estelle kept laughing. (Hmm, maybe I'll draw a picture of this... it would be... fun? Interesting?) "Hmm, I wonder what Andrew's wearing to the ball..." Lev mused. (he had left the room a while ago) "Well, ladies, the ball will start soon. Efrit wants to see you. "Great," Tarana muttered as we walked out the door. "So, I see you're all here. Good. The ball is starting. Five of you go through that door. Four of you through that one." Efrit commanded. She then stepped through a middle door. "Why do I have the feeling we're going to come out infront of a lot of people?" I muttered as we walked through the doors, literally. Janelle put her hand out to open the door and it just rippled around her hand. So we walked through the door. Into a huge ballroom. Where about a thousand people were staring at us. Smile and wave. Efrit said while at the same time she introduced us as the Killer Pixies, and very good dancers. What are you trying to do?? Get all the guys to dance with us?? Heh heh. Was the only reply. We walked out to the center of the ballroom. Where are the guys?? Fae asked frantically as a bunch of guys came crowding around us. "Scuuuuse me, coming through," Liam pushed his way through the crowd, followed by the other guys. "Ahem, that's my fianc, please step away," Eyros said to the crowd of guys surrounding Tarana. They all disappeared looking disappointed. "Excuse me," I said to the guys around me. I walked over to Adrian. So Heather, Ulani, Janelle, and Andrew were left to the horde of wacko courtiers. "Oooh! He's so cute!! One girl exclaimed. "Dance with me! Me!" Another girl shrieked. You guys!! Help me! Andrew hissed. How can we help? Janelle asked. Get them away!! Just dance with one of them so the rest will go away. Or dance with one of them and then turn into a puddle... Estelle suggested. What?? Well, I think everyone would be afraid to dance with someone who'll melt on them... Andrew shrugged and started dancing with the nearest girl. We watched curiously from the snack table. After a couple minutes Andrew started to melt. Started to. Liquid Pixie!! Efrit shouted. What the hell are you doing?! We didn't need to be watching to know that Efrit had stopped him, she was our leader, she didn't use the power much though. But that meant Andrew couldn't use his powers. So he was mostly water. He looked human, but he was all rippley and he was dripping. I suppose if I didn't know he could do that it would have been kinda creepy. "EEEEEEEE!!!" The girl he was dancing with shrieked and stepped away. She burst into tears and ran out of the room. Look what you've done! Efrit hissed. She changed Andrew back to normal. Sorry He grumbled, but he was trying hard not to laugh. FAE! ELYSE! LOOK! Lev screamed. We whirled around frantically to see Lev looking at the buffet table. GODIVA!! Lev pointed. Yay! Ten containers of Godiva ice cream spontaneously disappeared. Godiva time! Fae squealed. We sat on the steps in the garden eating invisible Godiva ice cream. Come join us! Lev called to the others. Estelle and Lance showed up and a few minutes later, so did Tarana and Eyros, and Andrew, Janelle, Heather, and Ulani. Tristan wasn't there for some reason. "Hey! This's-sss, this-sss gooOOood," Fae giggled. "We need m-mmmmmm more!" Lev laughed, and hiccupped. "Hee hee, I feeEEE-eeeel fUnny," I mumbled. "Like we're uhhh drUnk," Ulani said in a slurred voice. "Maybe, maybe, we are," Julian suggested. "Buhh- we di'n drink anyting alclic!" Janelle protested. "Mubbey summun spiked something?" Estelle asked as she swallowed another spoonful of the ice cream. We all stared at the seven empty ice cream containers and then at each other for a loooooong moment. Then we burst out laughing. "Sumun spiked thice cream?" Julian asked waving his spoon around. The large blob of ice cream slid off and splattered down the front of his shirt. "Juuu-juuuuuu-uuude!" Fae yelled. "oops!" He grinned happily. We stared once again at the empty ice cream containers. Momentarily oblivious to the screams that had started up inside the ballroom. "Wuhzzat?" Janelle asked. "Dunno," Tarana waved her hand carelessly. And finally something got through to the brains that had been fighting monsters and such for three or four years. "Thazz not good," Adrian pointed out. "We shudd doO somthin," I suggested. "Yeah." We got up and staggered into the ballroom. Something very bright hit us and blasted the doors (and us) back into the garden. "Wow! That's something baaad!" Eyros exclaimed. Once again we staggered towards the ballroom. "Sh-shieild, shield your se-selves!" Fae called. I held out my hands and blasted myself with a moonbeam. "OooOOOooooW!" I whined. When the spots cleared away, Janelle had passed out, Heather was hovering inside a pale green shield, Ulani was puking, and well... Julian was beating at the smoldering remains of Fae's dress, Liam was laughing helplessly at Lev's new hairdo and, Andrew was a puddle again. There was no sign of Tarana but Eyros was insisting she walked through a portal and Lance was apparently perplexed by a large egg sitting in the middle of the garden. "Di'iit wurk?" Adrian asked me. I tried again, on the third try, after my eyes stopped watering from the stardust I'd sprayed at them, I got a shield up. "Ahhh, drunken Faeries..." Something hissed. I looked up to see a vaguely human shaped snake type thing in the doorway, or what was left of the doorway. Blood dripped from its fangs as it spoke. "Arrrrre you one uh th' gests?" Eyros asked. "Not really..." It hissed. Just then a crowd of hysterical courtiers ran through the garden. A few of the girls saw Andrew (who was no longer a puddle) and ran towards him. "Help us please!" One of them screamed. "Save meee!" a second one yelled. Three of them smashed loudly into Andrew's shield and slid to the ground stunned. "You're the-ee evil one!" I yelled, as the realization slowly drifted down to my brain. I held out my hands in an attempt to blow the thing to Pieces with a Super Nova, before I realized I needed Ulani to do it too. The power simply curled around my hands and drifted aimlessly around before blowing up a rosebush. "OooOps" I sighed. "You cannn kill a snake like that!" Lev yelled. "Hell-lllp me with thissss Janelle!" Janelle stood up woozily and blasted Lev with a hurricane wind. Lev sailed up into the air screaming. "I'll-lllLL catchoo!" Liam stammered. Lev was falling rapidly towards the snake thing's head. It morphed suddenly into a complete snake. A huge one, with it's mouth gaping open below Lev. Liam ran up the snake's back and reached the point just above it's eyes just in time to catch Lev. She smiled lazily at him and then turned over and threw up. Now as you'll recall they were standing just above the snake's eyes. "WaaaAAAaaaaAaahh!" Lev yelled clinging to the snakes huge neck as Liam flew through the air due the serpent's thrashing. There was an angry shriek and suddenly nine more creatures were hovering in mid air. "Evvvvvvrissssso!" I called. The other mounts shot down towards the monster, they were headed by Efrit (aka Radiant Pixie) who blasted it to pieces. Aggggh! I knew I didn't have a chance normally... But I thought... If only I could get you drunk then you'd be useless..... It's voice faded away. And I passed out on top of Eversio. Oh god... I sat up, and lay down again immediately. My head was pounding like... like... like something really big had stepped on it. A healer handed me a glass of something green and foul smelling, as anything that is considered medicine is. I drank it all and fell asleep again. When I woke up again I noticed three things. One, I was in the infirmary. Two, so was everyone else. Three, that included the queen. She was sitting in a chair looking quite deadly and impatient, staring pointedly at the wall across from her. A few of the others were awake, Heather, Tarana, Estelle, and Ulani. The guys were there too, Julian was just sitting up and Eyros was holding his head dazedly. They were all occasionally casting frightened glances at Efrit. Finally, when Janelle (the last one to wake up) woke up, Efrit looked at us. She stared coldly at each of us in turn. "Who... Here... Will explain last night? Lets start with you, Andrew, and trying to turn into a puddle." "Well... I didn't want to dance with any of the girls. So I tried to scare them off." "And about being drunk?" Efrit hissed. "We ate all the Godiva ice cream. And that monster had spiked it. So we didn't know." "Oh, and why were you out in the garden eating ice cream instead of inside socializing like you should have been?" Andrew shifted uncomfortably. "We didn't want to socialize?" "Ah, I see." Efrit got up and walked out of the room. "Does anyone else feel really guilty?" Estelle asked. "You feel guilty?" Lev asked, "Why, because you sat in an egg while we all tried to fight?" "Er... No, because we all got drunk on ice-cream while we should have been inside." "Yeah," I agreed. Not that I regretted eating all the Godiva, but I did feel a bit guilty about it. |
