"The Cannonette!"
This is my cannon Jr, or cannonette. Its a 2nd generation. Its predecessor, The Spud Hammer, failed due to poor materials(abs plastic), but no body was injured. It is made of PVC and glued together, but it broke so it was secured with mechanical fasteners(screws). It can hurl a potato about 900 feet at full power, or a hard boiled egg ~1200 feet, but the furthest shot ever weve made was a football shaped snowball @ 1331 feet. We could not reproduce this range though so i dont count it. It fires the projectile at over 350mph, measuered with photoelectric timers. It will shoot a sharpened steel rod through a piece of 3/4" plywood and the sheetmetal side of a pickup truck(found out the hard way). We power and ignite this beast with a self-lighting MAPP gas torch. It has a wooden carriage made to look like a howitzer, and it also has an adjustable height retainer. It is fun to deliver high powered explosives, like pottasium chlorate/sucrose, 400 feet high and watch them exlode after the fuse burns out.
Gun specs - Cannonette Material - Polyvinyl Chloride resin (aka PVC) barrel - 40" x 2 Chamber - 28" x 3" Cost ~45$(mostly torch) Ignition - Magnetically generated spark, MAPP gas with air/fuel nozzle. Ammo - I found various types of ammo that work good. Heres the list. Note - dont ever try to shoot heavy objects as they will cause the barrel/back of the gun to come off, and maybe take vital body parts with them Some Are: -Potatoes -Hard boiled eggs -Golf balls/wadding -various grapeshot(rocks, etc) -Epoxy resin bullets -Hairspray lids filled with explosive and fused(dip end of fuse in gas to light) -lots of M-80s(gas dipped fuse) -lots of paintballs/wadding -Sharpened 1/4" steel rod -hunting arrows/wadding(fun) -a plastic bag filled with napalm and a gas soaked rag(real fun) - hard packed football shaped snowballs(1331 feet so far) -massive spitballs(fun at parties, not fully powered)
