| I was 16, It was 5 months before i got my license, And I was stuck with the biggest POS 1983 olds cutlass ciera as a first car...So i decided to get something slightly better. I came close to buying a 79 jeep, an 89 Z28, and i almost had a bronco, but i found this well used monte in october of '03 for 200$. It only had 78k miles, but the carb was badly in need of rebuilding, and it had a pretty nasty interior, among other minor flaws. Overall it was a goodass deal. I removed as much trim as possible, i spent my entire life savings (~$300) on primer, bondo, and other random paint supplies. I spent a few days getting out dents, and spray bobming the patches. (paint is planned soon). I lowered the car with my handy MAPP gas torch, the same one used to power my cannon, and i got the car about 3" lower overall. I got a 350$ Pioneer MP3 player, 250$ worth of speakers, a 700W profile amp, 2 12" subs, and a sealed box for another 400$, so now it sounds good too. Next was the nasty interior....it was ugly... Anyway my aunt luckily had some pimp ass faux fur that i spent 2 or 3 months covereing every removable piece of interior, and im gettting a totally clashing cow print for the seats, visors, and possibly 6x9 speaker boxes. Next came the hotrod part...cause im a power junkie. I removed everything from the old 305 H.O. except the block and proceded to replace everything. I kept the stock cam becuause i didnt want to pull the motor, and the 80s HO 4 barrel cams werent so bad. I put on some ported and polished heads with huge valves, a weiand high rise intake, a holley 650 vaccum secondary carb, an HEI distributor, some old headers, a new starter, alternator, and power steering pump, and all new nuts, bolts, and gaskets. I eliminated the AC because it didnt work anyway, and it was about 50lbs dragging on my motor. In the reassembly process i also noticed that the pistons were stamped with little .040, meaning they were bored .040 over, making this motor a 320 or 318 or something, and also meaning it had been rebuilt. I later learned from a previous owner that the motor was rebuilt only 4k miles ago, and it had all new seals and bearings. so i was set.... brand new motor, pimp interior, hoopdy sound system, hotrod bowtie power, and an overall lowrider look to the exterior. Planned mods - New wheels and tires, full flowmaster dual exhaust, metallic forest green paint, 350/700r4 when i get some money, new rearend gears, more bass, and more lowering. Ill keep you updated |
