====================
"Aya-kun!" Omi gasped when he saw his missing comrade standing by the door to his room. "When did you get back? Where were you? We were all worried!"
"Aya!" Yoji came up behind Omi, followed by Ken. "Where the hell were you?"
"We looked almost everywhere and still couldn't find you," Ken added.
"Tried the countryside?" Aya said.
"Countryside?" Omi looked at the redhead, questioningly. "What were you doing at the countryside, Aya-kun?"
"Fell unconscious after the mission and someone found me and took me in," was Aya's only explanation before he retreated into his room and slammed the door behind him.
~*~*~*~*~
"Where were you?" Nagi asked, as Schurderich stepped through the door.
"Nowhere in particular," the redhead answered.
"Crawford's pissed."
"I'll see to him later."
*****
"Where the fuck have you been?" Crawford demanded.
"Seems that I fell unconscious during our last mission and some man…a former doctor…took me in and treated me."
"And you stayed there willingly?"
"Well…there was someone posing a threat."
"Who?"
"No one in particular," Schurderich smirked at the American, who's far beyond annoyed now.
"Next time, leave a note."
"There won't be a next time."
"I sure hope so."
Schurderich turned and left the room, still smirking.
~*~*~*~*~
<<"Shit, you're heavy," Aya grunted as he pull Schurderich along.
"Heh…" Schurderich looked up. "Why are you helping me anyway? Aren't I supposed to be your enemy?"
"Escape now, ask questions later."
*****
"Jump," Aya ordered.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Schurderich said. "We're 10 stories up. We're gonna die if we jump down from HERE."
"Shut up and jump."
"Don't order me around. You're not Crawford."
"That's it. Close your fucking big mouth and JUMP!"
"How many times must I repeat this? NO!"
Aya glared at the Schwarz member and then carefully place a leg outside the window. The other leg followed. He then turned back and pulled the other redhead with him as he jumped.
"Remind me to murder you later…that is, if we're not already dead after this fall."
"Hn."
Soon, the only sound they heard was the sickening crunch of bone against ground.>>
Schurderich awoke with a start.
/So the kitten wasn't lying earlier/ Schurderich smiled to himself. He pushed himself off the bed and out the door.
~*~*~*~*~
Aya awoke to the sound of curtains flapping. He turned his eyes toward the window. Only to find a familiar figure seated there.
Good morning.
"What are you doing here?"
Paying you a little visit.
"What the hell do you want?"
"Answers" Schurderich spoke out loud this time.
"To what?"
"My questions, of course."
Aya narrowed his eyes at him. Schurderich only grinned and found himself a better seat. On the bed.
"Now, my first question deals with why you saved me at the Sunrise Building."
"No reason."
"Aw, come on. Do I have to invade your mind for the answers?"
"Why don't you? I can't lie then, can I?"
"True. But I'd rather not invade your little privacy."
Aya raised an eyebrow. "So now you respect people's privacy?"
Schurderich only shrugged. "Well? Why DID you save me?"
"Like I said, no reason."
For the next couple of minutes, Schurderich kept asking the same question. And he received the same replies from the other redhead. Finally, he gave up and decided to probe into Aya's mind.
He withdrew moments later to find Aya glaring at him.
"I didn't know you cared, kitten," Schurderich gave him a smug grin.
"I don't."
"Don't deny it. You said it yourself that if I invade your mind, you can't lie then."
Aya was silent. Long, elegant fingers curled itself around his chin as his face was titled upwards to meet the gaze of the other.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Aya questioned.
"Nothing in particular," Schurderich answered.
Slowly, he brought his lips to the other's. He felt his kitten tense up the moment their lips met. But he didn't protest. Schurderich smiled. Soon enough, Aya was relaxing and kissing back with the same amount of passion that Schurderich had.
After a few moments, Schurderich drew back. A small grin making its way onto his face when he heard his kitten gave a small whimper of disappointment.
He laid Aya down onto the bed and climbed on top of him. He leaned in close.
"What do you want, kitten?" he whispered into Aya's ear.
"You…" Aya's voice was barely audible as he answered the other redhead. Schurderich grinned again.
~*~*~*~*~
Do you love me, kitten?
"Yes."
Good. Schurderich kissed his kitten's forehead softly before getting up. I have to go now before Mr. Crawford gets a fit about my disappearance again. He mussed the other's hair then began pulling his clothes together. Once finished, he climbed back out the window.
I'll see you tomorrow night, kitten.
Aya didn't answer him. He watched his lover's figure disappear before falling back to sleep.
=========
Many nights after that, Schurderich returned to the room of his kitten. They made love, and talked, among other things. The Schwarz member would leave that very night, promising to be back the next night. And the promise was always fulfilled. Until tonight.
Aya stared up at his ceiling, thinking about Schurderich. He didn't want to admit it but somehow, the other redhead had made a permanent place in his heart. He was madly in love.
A soft knock on the door shook Aya out of his daydreams.
"Come in," he said. Soon, a brunette poked his head into the dark room.
"Aya?"
"Yes, Ken?"
"We need to talk to you downstairs."
Aya sat up as Ken walked away, wondering if it was a mission. He glanced at the clock. It was almost 11 o'clock.
/Why would Manx bring in a mission at this hour?/ Aya thought as he pulled on a shirt and left his room to go downstairs.
*****
"Aya-kun? Is it true?" blue eyes pierced amethyst ones. Omi looked at him, pleadingly. Aya turned away to avoid looking at the youngest assassin in the eyes.
"Aya!" a pair of hands shook him violently. "Dammit, Aya! Answer us!"
"Yes," the redhead finally spoke. He turned back to Yoji. "Yes, I am sleeping with a member of Schwarz. Satisfied?"
"What the hell were you thinking?" Ken asked.
"…"
"Aya-kun…" Omi looked at him again with those pleading eyes. "Did he tricked you? He can control people's minds. Did he control yours?"
"No…no, he didn't. I was in perfect control of my mind then…"
"Then what the hell were you thinking?!" Yoji demanded. "Aya, he's a member of Schwarz! He can be using you for God's sakes!"
"He wasn't…" Aya's voice came in a low whisper, barely audible even to himself.
"How the hell would you know?!"
"I don't know!" the redhead shrugged off the older assassin's hands and glared at him. "Look, I didn't say anything about you and that girl from Schreient. The last thing I need is for you to blow up about me and Schurderich."
"At least we didn't sleep together! I only think of her as though she was Asuka."
"And what did that resulted in? We nearly got killed Yoji. Because of your stupid carelessness. At least I didn't drag personal problems into our missions!"
"Aya-kun…" Omi looked back and forth, from Aya to Yoji, then back. Aya was pissed. And now, so was Yoji. Omi wanted to stop this argument. But he can't. Ken moved and stood in between the 2 quarreling assassins.
"Yoji," he began. "Aya was right. He didn't drag personal problems during our missions. But…"
"But if we were to bump into Schwarz again," Yoji interrupted him. "Can he kill him? CAN HE?!" Ken turned to the redhead, who is now staring at floor, avoiding everyone's gazes.
"No," he answered, softly. He looked back up at his comrades, tears glistening. "No, I won't be able to kill him. But I….I…."
"You what?" Yoji asked, his tone has softened when he saw the tears. It wasn't a normal thing for their cool and calm leader to suddenly break down and cry over someone who's supposed to be his enemy.
"I loved him…" Aya finished, his breath coming in rapidly. The flow of tears was increasing as well.
"Aya…" Ken wanted to say something. To comfort him. But he couldn't as Aya suddenly ran out of the room. Omi was going to follow but a hand on his shoulder prevented him from doing so.
"Leave him alone," Yoji said.
~*~*~*~*~
Schurderich was late because Crawford suddenly decided to have a fit right before the redhead can head out the door. Not only him, but also Nagi was forced to listen to their leader ramble on and on about how Farfarello should stay locked in his room at all times.
It's not like it was Schurderich's fault that Farfarello managed to escape his bonds and went out on his stupid hunts to make God suffer again.
The redhead watched in confusion as he entered the room he grew to love these past few nights and gazed at the sight before him.
Kitten?
At the sound of his nickname, Aya glanced up to find his lover standing by the window. He ran to him and hugged him tightly. As if he was afraid he'll disappear if he let go.
Schurderich was confused but he held the other redhead tightly. Aya continued crying, although he was trying his best to stop.
What's wrong?
"T-they…found…o-out," the answer came in soft hiccups. Schurderich led Aya to the bed and sat him down then slowly probed into his mind.
"Damn them," Schurderich hissed, moments later. A moment of silence passed through as Schurderich did his best to try not to leave the room and kill everyone in the house. Soon, the tears ceased and Aya pulled away, brushing away what was left of the tears.
"You ok now?" Schurderich asked, leaning his forehead against the other's.
"Y-yes."
"I'm not using you."
"I-I k-know…"
Schurderich placed a soft kiss on the other's lips. "I love you. I really do."
"I-I know…I love you, too."
~*~*~*~*~
He placed a soft kiss on the other's forehead, before getting up from the bed and putting on his clothes. He was about to leave through the window when he heard a soft moan. He turned back and gazed at his sleeping lover a long time before finally leaping off into the night.
Aya woke up that morning and found a letter was taped to the pillow next to his.
Gomen ne, Aya. I can't help but be guilty about what happened. You're hurt and I felt guilty for not being there earlier to prevent them from blowing up at you like that. I hope you understand what I'm trying to do. We're enemies. We should have never been together. Please forgive me. No matter what, I still love you very much.
Schu
The tears began flowing once again. Aya clutched the letter to his chest, crying softly at the same moment. They were over. Even though the time they were together was very short, Aya knew that no one else could replace the gap that Schurderich left. He loved him and him only.
