Gang Shootout (Mpls)- Early this morning police responded to reports of gunfire in North Minneapolis. Witnesses indicate that an altercation between two groups turned deadly in the streets. Both groups opened fire upon each other, leading to a gunfight that lasted several minutes. Police arrived on the scene but were unable to detain any suspects. Three alleged gangmembers were fatally shot. A MPD press release indicates the strong possibility of conflict between Asian and ethnic Russian gangs. The three casualties identities have been withheld until the family has been notified.
There are some signs that this violence is tied to the recent rash of murders and unrest among the communities of Minneapolis said Hennepin County officials on the condition of anonymity. This would defy earlier statements made by the County concerning escalated criminal activity.
