OK, if you're like me, you're really getting frustrated with the cost of gas these days.   First and foremost, IT'S NOT THE OIL COMPANY'S FAULT!  Yes, the oil company's are making record profits.  What you need to look at though is their profit margin-what they have left over between profit and what they spend on expenses.  The oil companies make about $.10 for every gallon of gas.  There are several factors that you need to look at.  At the top of the list is the fact that lawmakers in Washington, DC and the environmentalists will not let us get the natural resources we have here in this country.  We have more coal than Saudia Arabia has oil.  There are huge finds of natural gas.  There are large oil fields off our coasts and in Alaska.  Can we get to any of these?? NO!  Yet we have all these people wanting to break our dependency on foreign oil but they are the same people blocking our efforts to get these resources.  Some things you need to know:

1.  The Exxon Valdez disaster was caused by human error on a ship transporting oil IMPORTED to the U.S.-not from oil drilling here.
2.  There are no caribou herds native to the area in ANWR that we would drill in, so no wildlife will be harmed.
3.  We have enough natural gas underground to heat every house in the USA for 100 years.
4.  President Clinton vetoed a bill in 1994 that would have opened ANWR to drilling, claiming it would take 10 years to get oil out of it.  Had he approved it, we would now be enjoying oil from here at home.
5.  There is enough oil in ANWR alone to supply oil from between 12 and 32 years.
6.  There has not been a new refinery built in the US for over 30 years.  Why is this important?  Well, now that the environmentalists have helped mandate cleaner fuels, there are over 15 different blends that have to be produced.  When a refinery has to switch the fuels during winter and summer, they have to shut down which leads to less production and spikes in the gas price.

Bottom line is if you are fed up with trying to decide how much gas to put in your car or having to cut costs elsewhere so you have gas money, you need to contact your Congress and Senate representatives and make your voice heard.  Honestly, the Democrats are killing this country and we need people in Washington that think like we do, not ones that only look out for themselves.  Make your voice heard.  Tell them to allow drilling here at home for oil, natural gas and coal.  Tell them to you support nuclear energy.  Nothing will be an overnight fix, but if we start now, we can hopefully put a halt to things before we can't afford the cost.
