These beautifully and painstakingly crafted rods are always a uniform three and a half feet in length and are a uniform glossy black. Normally worn on the waist of the Hardhead patrols, they also have a magically protruding handle which leaps out at the slightest thought of the user, ready for action against lawbreakers. Over the cycles, the Rod of the Harmonium has been given many names by the usually chaotic Sigilian natives. Such names as the knightstick (as in knight-of-the-post, who are most often the recipients of the rod's usage), as well as the bullyclub (for anyone who has even encountered a Hardhead, these reasons for this is obvious) are very common.
The powers of the Rod of the Harmonium are formidable, for it is not only very useful as a weapon (doing 1d8 points of damage in the skilled hands of a Harmonium officer, only 1d2 to those who are unskilled), but also as a shield against various hand-held weapons. It is said that the Harmonium drill with the Rods for seven sleepless days during their Academy training, and that afterwards, it merely becomes an extension of them. Further, the Rod is capable of delivering the following spells up to ten times a day: shocking grasp, detect lie, comprehend languages, harmony, and shackles, which the Hardheads use without impunity.
The Harmonium do not take too kindly to other sods using these Rods, so consider yourself advised!

(Part of a speech given to participants in this training course:)
"The Rod of the Harmonium is a dangerous weapon, especially in the wrong hands. To that end, the rod has been modified to make it difficult to use for those who have not had the special training that you will shortly learn. Only after successfully completing this course will you be able to use it to its full capacity in combat, not only causing more damage (1d8 instead of 1d2 in untrained hands), but also using its defensive capabilities (-2 to AC from frontal melee attacks) and many magical abilities. Any rumors you have heard about members of the wretched Revolutionary League infiltrating this course and learning the secrets of the rod are malicious fabrications and punishable by two cycles hard labor."

Developed solely for use by the Harmonium, this spell causes all who fail their savings throw vs. spell (lawful characters save at -4 due to the special "lawful nature" of the spell, chaotics at +4, and neutrals get no change to their saves) to basically "fall into step" with the Hardhead way of thought; their alignment changes to Lawful, though the change is more like a suggestion to act in a lawful manner. Anything mundane (i.e. not imminently life-threatening) suggested by anyone who is perceived as a Harmonium officer will be performed without hesitation or question.
The Harmonium often use this spell not only in scragging knights-of-the-post and chaotic cony-catchers, but also in picking up new, leatherheaded and clueless recruits. The implications of this (to any free-thinking cutter, that is) are quite staggering, to say the least, and the Free League and Xaositects openly denounce and combat the use of this spell.
The material component of this spell is an unbroken ring of metal.

Long ago, even before the advent of shifter's manacles, the Harmonium needed a simple, yet effective way of detaining all of the leatherheaded lawbreakers that they scragged throughout the day. Physical shackles and chains were simply not possible, as when you scrag the high numbers of sods that the Hardheads scrag in a single day, a cutter'd have to have an entire wagon just to carry the chains! So, the Hardhead spellslingers came up with this simple spell, which solves all of those problems.
The spell conjures a glowing set of shackles, complete with chains, which can be directed to attach themselves to anything that the caster wishes. Once the shackles are clasped upon the prisoner's wrists (save vs. spell or be captured), they cannot be removed by anything short of a limited wish. Further, if more than one sod is wearing the shackles, then the chains can be commanded to join together to form a chain gang. Needless to say, this spell is highly guarded by the Harmonium and any non-Hardheads that are seen using it are sought out at all costs.
The material component for this spell is an iron shackle that is ceremoniously closed at the completion of the spell.
