| Irish emigrants started arriving in Argentina in the 1820s and 1830s, the majority going to the countryside where they worked in harsh conditions often fighting againsty the native population. Most of these Irish came from the Westmeath / Longford area. They built their own churches, hospitals and clubs and maintained thir traditions well into the twentieth century.
