Players not going anywhere

Following manager Dermot Keely's departure to Derry City, Kildare County General Manager Pat McNally has moved swiftly to deny rumours that some Thoroughbreds players may be following their former manager to the Brandywell.

McNally said "Our players are under contract and will not be allowed leave the club". He also added jokingly "If Chelsea however are prepared to break their transfer record we will certainly listen”.

He added “Kildare County have as their number one priority promotion to the Premier Division. The club have brought together a squad that is capable of achieving this ambition and despite the departure of Dermot Keely and Gavin Dykes, who decided to accompany Dermot to Derry City, the board do not see that as a major obstacle.”

Striker John Ryan has now temporarily taken over the reins at Kildare County until a permanent replacement for Keely is announced. There is rumoured to be numerous people interested in the position. The club had hoped to get a new manager in place before the FAI Carlsberg Cup game against Crumlin United on Friday, but this does not look likely.

McNally has said “I feel that it is only a matter of time until a replacement is in place. The Board are aware that it is important to have somebody in place as soon as possible but are also aware that this is probably the most important decision ever to be made by the club.”
