COBH RAMBLERS 1-2 KILDARE COUNTY This was a very important match for Kildare as a win would get them back in the title race, after Finn Harp's win on Thursday against Dublin City. County got off to a bright start as returning striker Barry O'Connor was unlucky not to get on the end of a Shay Zeller cross after a matter of minutes. Ray Scully had been brought in to replace injured Ben Whelehan, and gave a marvellous performance in midfield. He shepherded Dave Hill all during the game, and distributed the ball well. Kildare took the lead after 20 minutes, when Keely took a powerful header from inside his own half which sent Philip Hughes clear, for Hughes to volley it home from 20 yards. Kildare were 1-0 at the interval, and it wasn't long before they doubled this. Alan McNevin crossed the ball in high from the left, which Hughes could not get up to direct it at goal, but luckily Barry O'Connor was able to collect it and score an easy goal. Cobh tried to claw their way back into the game, and if it wasn't for a Mark Hutchinson tackle, it would've been 2-1 when Tynan was almost through on goal. Kildare continued to dominate, but the home side grabbed a late goal when Yelverton scored from an O'Reilly cross. After the game, most County fans felt that the scoreline flattered the home side a bit too much. This was the best defensive game Kildare have played all season, which is a good sign. With favourable results in the other games, tonight's win moves County back up to second in the table. Goals: Kildare - Teams: Cobh - Weather: Cloudy with Drizzle Post Match Table:
