MATCH REPORT
KILDARE COUNTY 2-1 SLIGO ROVERS Kildare County continued their winning streak as they came from behind to beat Sligo Rovers 2-1. In the first half chances were few and far between, with Kildare getting the first major chance. Barry O'Connor collected an Alan Keely long ball but his shot was saved by Ciaran Kelly in the Rovers' goal. Ben Whelehan had Kildare's next chance as his shot from outside the area went just wide. Although Kildare had some chances in the first half, most of them were long range and did not really trouble Kelly's goal. Sligo's chances in the first half were also put wide or over, and the match was scoreless at the interval. The second half was much more exciting than the first, and Sligo took the lead on 48 minutes. Dermot Keely showed great tactical knowledge as he reshuffled the team and made two substitutions which changed the flow of the game. County battled on, and were rewarded in the 57 minute when Ben Whelehan scored his third goal of the season. Barry O'Connor received the ball from a Damien Brennan throw, and when Whelehan finally received it he blasted it into the net. Kildare took the lead on 70 minutes. Mark Hutchison flicked the ball out to Alan McNevin, and McNevin's cross found Barry O'Connor who headed it in to bring his tally for this season to two goals in three games. Sligo never gave up and as the final whistle drew close, Paul McTiernan had a great chance for Rovers only to be denied by an excellent stop from Wayne Russell.
