MATCH REPORT
KILKENNY CITY 0-3 KILDARE COUNTY Kildare returned to winning ways as they easily defeated Kilkenny City in Buckley Park. Matt Britton made his debut, and Tadhg Murphy started in goal instead of the suspended Wayne Russell. Kildare were on top for most of the game, and Philip Hughes had a shot cleared off the line after just two minutes. Kildare broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when a Matt Britton corner was knocked down by Damien Brennan for Richie Purdy to score his first County goal. Almost immediately after the restart Kildare were on the scoresheet again. Matt Britton scored from a well worked Kildare move - Kelly beat two City players before crossing the ball into Britton, who rose above the defender to score on his debut. The second half was less lively as bottom-placed City tried to kill the game and hold the result at 2-0. Both sides created little chances, with Kilkenny's best being Tynan's shot which went wide of Murphy's goal. Hutchison was playing well, and kept the Kilkenny players getting near Murphy's goal, as well as distributing the ball around the pitch. County used their few chances to intimidate the City defence and widened the lead on 84 when Barry O'Connor scored his first Kildare goal. McNevin had hit the post with a long-range shot, but O'Connor pounced on the rebound and put Kildare 3-0 up. Goals: Teams: Kilkenny - Weather: Cool and Dry Post Match Table:
