MATCH REPORT

KILDARE COUNTY 1-3 LONGFORD TOWN

Kildare last night slumped out of the League Cup with a loss to Premiership side Longford Town. Longford will now face Athlone  to see which team progresses from League Cup Group 3.

Kildare again went behind in the second minute (a common occurrence this season, it seems). Paddy Mulvahill put the visitors ahead with an easy shot from a rebound.

Kildare fought hard, and were back level in the 28th minute when Philip Hughes notched home to score his third goal of the season.

The score could never stay like this in such an entertaining match, and Town were back in front just six minutes later when Tom Silke headed home.

Longford continued to attack and they killed off the match when Ciaran Foley popped up to move the match to 3-1 just before half-time.

Kildare tried to come back in the second half, but both defences stayed tight and the match eventually ended with the same 3-1 scoreline.

Sadly, this years League Cup campaign is over, but there's always next year.
