KILDARE COUNTY 3-1 MONAGHAN UNITED This game started off very defensively with neither side getting a proper shot in the first ten minutes. Ray Scully had the first chance, but he just shot wide. Monaghan looked very threatening in attack, and only an excellent save from Russell stopped the visitors from taking the lead from Doyle's free kick. In the 28th minute however, the visitors took the lead when Stephen Arkins cut inside Keely to put the ball home. Better defending is expected from the Kildare team this season. In the thirty-third minute the score was level. Ray Scully worked extremely hard to get a corner, which Matt Britton crossed in for Damien Brennan to hit the net. Britton himself almost put County in front going into half time, but his volley was just over. The second half featured very weak football, with neither side showing much adventure with the ball. With time running out, Keely reshuffled his front line by bringing on Zeller and Gorman. Zeller almost put the home side ahead with a headed first touch. Unfortunately it went to the wrong side of O'Leary's goal. In the 88th minute, County broke the second half deadlock when Kelly scored from an Alan McNevin cross. County had three men challenging for the ball, and created holes in the United defence. With one minute left on the clock, County killed off the game. Ray kenny was brought down by Doyle inside the box, and McNevin coolly slotted the penalty home. Goals: Monaghan - Teams: Monaghan - Weather: ????? Post Match Table:
