MATCH REPORT

5 July 2003

KILDARE COUNTY 0-0 FINN HARPS

Kildare missed out on the chance of going top when they drew with leaders Finn Harps in a scoreless affair. Both teams were playing a 5-3-2 formation, which made the game very defensive, and meant there were few chances.

There wasn't much excitement in the game in the first hour, but things livened up with half an hour to go. In the 61st minute, Harps were reduced to ten men after Shane Bradley received a straight red for an off the ball challenge on Philip Hughes.

Almost immediately after, Kildare County's debutant, Gareth Cronin, who was signed from Cork City during the week, put the ball in the net. However, his goal was disallowed after he was judged to have pushed Finn Harps defender Eloka Osokuh.

Finn Harps almost took the three points right at the end of the match, but luckily for Dermot Keely's men, John Kenny's shot just went wide.

Kildare's next game is against bottom-placed Kilkenny City at Station Road on Saturday night.
