MATCH REPORT
KILDARE COUNTY 1-1 ATHLONE TOWN Kildare County stayed in fourth position as they continued their 3 game unbeaten streak as the points were shared at Station Road. The blustery conditions made it hard for either team to play good football, with the wind behind Athlone in the first half and Kildare in the second. Athlone Town got off to a perfect start when Mickey McCann knocked the ball into the area for Stephen kelly to score with a diving header. Athlone had most of the chances in the first half, and Kildare weren't helped by the strong wind against them. Town almost increased their lead on 28 minutes, but Richie Purdy cleared Rush's shot off the line. Dave Moran had a great save from a Philly Hughes shot to keep the game 1-0 at the interval. After the break, Kildare had the wind at their backs and dominated the half. Kildare hadn't broke the deadlock, but when Shay Zeller came on in the 64th minute things changed for County. Zeller always performs well when he comes on (á la Solskjaer), and this time was no different. Damien Brennan crossed from the right in the 66th minute, and Zeller scored with his first touch - a looping header over Dave Moran. County had a number of chances to win the match in the final minutes, the best being Barry O'Connor's header wide from Britton's cross, but the match ended one apiece. Kildare play Athlone again in St. Mel's Park this Tuesday at 7.45 p.m. in the League Cup Group 3. Goals: Teams: Athlone - Weather: Very Windy Post Match Table:
