MATCH REPORT
GALWAY UNITED 0-1 KILDARE COUNTY Kildare won their first game back after the break, due to a strong display from their defenders. It's also Kildare's second time to beat Galway, but this match wasn't as entertaining as the 5-3 win in the opening game of the season. It was Peter Rogers first league start of the season for Keely's men, and he was unlucky not to get the visitors on the scoresheet in the twelfth minute. Rogers headed McNevin's cross on target, but unfortunately for the away side, it was saved by United 'keeper Forde. McNevin was on hand once again to deliver a promising cross in the twenty-fifth minute. Barry O'Connor headed it on for Ben Whelehan who hit the crossbar with his bouncing shot. Just a few minutes later, Shay Zeller had to be taken off after he became injured in a collision with Forde. Finally, the deadlock was broken just before half-time, when Hughes crossed in for O'Connor, who shot towards goal, but the ball hit Mixie Hartey and ended up slowly crossing the line. Unfortunately for O'Connor, he isn't credited with the goal. This late first half goal must have meant that both managers had better rethink their half-time team talk. The second half was very defensive by both sides, with goal opportunities few and far between. United striker Moran was unlucky not to have equalised from a clear chance, but his header barely troubled Russell. United did put the ball in the net in the 77th minute, but Alan Murphy was offside when he received Frawley's pass. The rest of the match stayed defensive, and it ended 1-0 to the visitors.
