Racism Devastates PC's Alison and Jamal - (Soap Opera Weekly)

Alison and Jamal are hit with a dose of reality this week on Port Charles when a stranger mistakes Jamal for Alison's pimp. As the man inquires about Alison's "asking price", it dawns on the blissful duo that the outside world is encroaching on their happiness. The trouble starts when the couple's cold apartment propels them to a hotel. "They go out to get on his bike, and Jamal wants to see if they have enough money," Erin Hershey (Alison) explains. "So she's counting it. There's a drunk walking through the alley looking for the bar, and he says, 'How much for the lady?' Alison's like, 'I can't believe he just said that!' and he says, 'Relax. This is between me and your pimp.'" Jamal jumps to her defense, but Alison pooh-poohs the encounter, leading to an argument. "She blows it off, but it affects Jamal because it's happened to him before." Hershey notes. "They're on two different levels. He's warning her that things like this will happen again." Adding insult to injury, Jamal later finds his bike vandalized. Alison is undaunted. "She refuses to buy into that." Hershey declares. "Jamal is right for her no matter what color or nationality he is. Nothing matters to her."
