On the Road Again: Kiko Ellsworth - (Soap Opera Digest)

Destination: Venezuela

Companion: "I went by myself. I wanted to check out how I would grow in new surroundings, with no security, no reservations and nothing that I knew. So, I did that, and I made a lot of new friends."

Take Off: "I started off in [the capital city of] Caracas. Then, I took a charter flight to the island of Margarita for a few days. I stayed with a family that I met there. For two nights, I slept on a hammock outside on their porch. It was great. From there I went on a boat ride, which was probably about 40 minutes, to [an unnamed island the locals call] East of Friley. No one lives there. You can go snorkeling and scuba diving. The water is crystal clear. I snorkeled for first time. It was different, getting adjusted to the water and breathing. It's a little claustrophobic, and the pressure builds up on you differently than in a pool, but there were a lot of colorful fish in the water. It was beautiful."

Disaster Strikes: "Since I didn't have any plans, had no reservations and didn't know anybody, the first day-and-a-half was a little unsettling. It's a shock not having structure and not having everything set in stone. I was a little wobbly at first, like a little kid learning how to walk. So, I was just trying to stand my ground. It got to one point where it was either going to make or break me. Happily, it made me."

Time for Chotchkes: "The only thing that really grabbed me was a handmade belt. It's leather. The buckle is a big, hand-carved metal piece. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I had to get it."
