No More Mr. Tough Guy - (Soaps in Depth)
It's taken time for Alison to break down Jamal's tough exterior, but now that she's succeeded, the two are growing closer than ever. Case in point? Jamal finally shared his feelings with Alison about his mother's death. Creating that kind of emotional intimacy could have been a real challenge, but Jamal's portrayer, Kiko Ellsworth, says getting vulnerable came easily to him. "The thing that's hard for me to do is hold it all back," he says. "As real people, we don't just spill our emotions, and luckily I've gotten to the point where it's there. Now I just have to work on the muscle where you hold it back like we do in reality." Oddly enough, Ellsworth said he had no idea how touching some of his scenes were with Erin Hershey (Alison) have been. "I don't hear the background music and see how they are putting it all together," he explains. "But I watched it recently and saw for the first time how it was coming off -- it's really something beautiful!"
