To some extent, everybody is a photographer. It's difficult to find somebody who hasn't shoot a photo in his/her life. As for me, I don't recall my first snapshot neither my first camera. I do recall getting interested in "serious" photogaphy around 1971 thanks to a good friend who was my coworker at my days as a Psychlogist for the Juvenile Court system. He had a Nikkormat, and told me the basics of f-stops, shutter speeds, etc. With the birth of my first son, I flew to nearby St. Thomas and bought a Pentax Spotmatic II at their duty free shops. The camera is still with me today but had to do a repair job that cost me more than getting another used one. Still, it's MY camera and nowadays, with the advent of eBay and those internet auctions, I've been able to get an arsenal of lenses very cheap that in the beginning were beyond my budget. In the last 5-6 years, the photography virus became alive again, mainly in the form of camera collector (in a frugal manner) and a toy camera fan. My collection may be now around 50-60 specimens and growing, with a special liking of the 110 format and Argus cameras.. I belong to a magnificient internet group called the ARGUS COLLECTORS GROUP (ACG). By no means I am an accomplished photographer. As a matter of fact I think I am a lousy one. A friend of mine used to say that he loved tennis, and he acknowledged that he was really bad at it, but he also said that the fact that he was not good would not prevent him from playing and enjoying the sport. If you really enjoy something, by all means do it! (providing it's not illegal or improper, of course). Don't let anyone, much less those internet photo group critics, refrain you from doing it. I've seen so much junk posing as "artistic material". and some people simply posting unashamedly whatever they like, that nothing surprises me. You will find below links to some of my photos (who knows, perhaps you'll like them!} as well as links to some of my favourite internet sites. You will also get a glimpse of my modest camera collection with my comments on them, just in case they may be of help to you. THANKS! |
