"fast search, deep search, easy..."
You can now download version 2.0.0
QFS is provided AS IS. So, as you may have read many other times, there's no guarranty on data lost, computer malfunction, etc..
However, as you can read in [2. What is QFS?], QFS does very few things and does not interoperate with other programs (only with the OS), so it's very dificult to QFS to damage anything anyway.
QFS is a tiny program that searches on the "Favorites" directory for a string in the name of the Internet's shortcut files.
I've done it because the fact that, althought maintaining a structured and kindly sorted favorites, it's lots faster to search for a favorite than navigating the long structured favorites tree.
If you have hundreds of favorites, and usually use it most, try QFS!
QFS is not a websearch engine, portal, spider, program, etc...
QFS is not a favorites manager. You manage your favorites and QFS just search.
QFS is not a database of your favorites. You store your favorites as always.
QFS is not a virus, not a trojan, not a worm, not a backdoor.
QFS doesn't search in the "META" of the HTML pointed by the Internet's shortcut.
Unzip and run. No installation required.
QFS (v2.0.0 and above) creates a few registry keys (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Quick Favorites Search)
You can delete that keys manually (with your favorite registry editor) or with "\r" from the search text box
Previous versions doesn't create configuration files nor registry keys, so no uninstallation is required
You must have VB6.0 runtime libraries. (msvbvm60.dll)
QFS is a text box where you type any string you want. When you hit <Enter>, QFS searches in your favorites folder for any file wich contains that string.
On version 2.0 and above, you can search on Favorite Name, Favorite URL, or both. Notice that searching just in Favorite Name is lots faster than other options, due to no file access is required. You can switch between this tree modes by entering "\n", "\u", or "\b" in the search text box, in order to search by (n)ame, by (u)rl, or (b)oth.
Note that the file will "contain"and not "begin with" the string. So, for a string like "new" any of the following are correct:
"www.thenews.com", "newswired.com", "The new stores", "wahtelsenewyoucanimagine"
If only one file with the string is found, then your favorite is launched in your browser.
If more than one is found, then a sorted dropdown combo with all the files is shown. If you are searching by Name, combo is sorted by Favorite name and it's shown first. Otherwise, is sorted by favorite URL and it's shown first. You can move between them with <up> and <down> keys, or <Alt+down> to see the full combo, and hit <Enter> when you have found the right shortcut. Then the shortcut is launched in your browser.
When Combo is shown, its ToolTip (the label that appears when you stop your mouse over it) is the relative (to your Favorites root) path of the selected Favorite
If you don't want to launch the browser with any of the files in the combo, you can hit <Esc> to return to the search text box.
Hitting <Esc> from the text box will exit QFS. When you exit QFS, your window size and position, and search mode, are saved on the registry
Still none. But I expect you to found something going wrong... :-)
in version 2.0: now you can search by name, by URL o both. Some registry keys added for preferences
in version 1.4.0: Sorting is now done by QuickSort algorithm increases speed
in version 1.2.0: Faster directory access
· Integrate as a bar in Internet Explorer (difficult. if possible, to do with a VB project)
· Make QFS Netscape's bookmarks compatible
Windows 9x, NT, 2k
VB6.0 runtime libraries (msvbvm60.dll)
Windows Favorites folder (QFS does NOT work with Netscape HTML bookmarks)
