| Position: Pitcher Birthday: August 1, 1968 Age: 34 Birth Place: Hyougo, Japan Weight: 178 lb Height: 5'11 Bats/Throws: Right/Right After Playing Japanese University League, Shiggy was drafted by Orix Blue Waves 1st round in 1990. He also won the Rookie of the year award 1991. Played 6 seasons at Blue Waves and was a teammate of Ichiro's. Hasegawa signed with Anaheim in 1997, and signed with Seattle this offseason. Shigetoshi just published a book in Japan this winter called "Tekisha Seizon" meaning "He who fits, Survives". It is about his experience in the states. So now the Mariners have a signer, a writer and a wizard all from Japan ;-) Shigetoshi Hasegawa had a great first season with the Mariners in 2002. He didn't allow a run until May 1st. He ended the season with a 3.20 ERA. Shiggy ended the season with 8 wins in relief and only 3 losses. He proved to be a strong reliever, and was re-signed by the Mariners in the offseason. Shigetoshi has a wife, Erie and a son Kohto. |
