In 2001 Ichiro won a gold glove and a silver slugger award. He repeated that in 2002. He also had a Mariners record 27 intentional walks. Ichiro was the 6th player to have 200+ hit seasons in his first two seasons, and was the first Mariner to do that (because he rocks!!) Ichiro hit in 14 of the first 15 games of the 2003 season. He also had an 11 game htiting streak. Once again, Ichiro lead the Major leagues in All Star Votes.

Ichiro Suzuki is the first Japanese position player to sign with a Major League team. He won seven consecutive batting titles while in Japan playing on the Orix Blue Wave. He also won seven gold gloves. Ichiro is the only player with his first name on his jersey. This year Ichiro has set many new records and rookie records. He got a new rookie records for singles in a season on September 7th, and he set a new Mariner rookie record and club record for hits in a season. He has a good strong arm and is a fast runner. He has been clocked at running from home to first in 3.7 seconds. 4 seconds is considered really good. Scary.. huh?

Ichiro finished off the 2001 season with a .351 batting average, which won him the AL batting title. He also lead the league with 242 hits, 56 stolen bases, and finished second in rund with 127. He became the 2001 AL Rookie of the year, getting all but 1 first place votes, and also became the AL MVP!! Go-go Ichiro!!
