| Born: 09/30/75 Birthplace: Maracay,Venezuela Height: 6'1" Weight: 200 Position: SS Bats/Throws: Switch/Right ML Debut: September 6, 1998 Carlos missed some of 2002 due to injuries to his hand and his leg due to foul balls, etc. He hit well with the bases loaded, and he also had 6 triples last year. He also had 124 hits, 24 doubles and 9 home runs. Carlos Guillen started the 2000 season late because of a hamstring pull that put him on the Disabled List. The natural short stop played most of 2000 at third but played some short stop. He tied a career high in 2000 with 3 hits in a game. In 2000 lead the Mariners in batting average in August while hitting his first grand slam off Denny Neagle in New York on August 7th. In the post season last year he didn't get much playing time but in game 3 of the ALDS vs Chicago he hit a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mariners the win, and the sweep. In game 6 of the ALCS s New York he launched a long 2 run homer to the upper deck of Yankee Stadium giving the Mariners a 4-0 lead, but the Mariners failed to keep that lead and lost :( This year Carlos Guillen is their regular short stop and has been outstanding. He's barley made any errors (Less than Arod) and has one of the top fielding percentages (better than Arod). Maybe he will get the gold glove this yeahr, that would be cool. But I doubt it, because people who make 252 million seem to get more attention. With only a few weeks left in the 2001 season, Carlos came down with a severe case of Tuberculosis. He managed to come back for the final round of the playoffs against the Yankees, and played his best! Carlos was the Mariners everyday short stop last year, and should improve this year. He always comes through in the clutch, and has excellent range. Carlos Guillen lives in Aragua, Venezuela and has a son Alfonso. |
