| Born: 04/06/69 Birthplace: ElCajon,CA,USA Height: 5'10" Weight: 190 Position: 2B Bats/Throws: Right/Right ML Debut: August 19, 1992 After having an awesome 2001 season, Bret got off to a bad start in the 2002 season. He struggled, but then hit .336 with 12 homers and 54 RBIs after the All-Star break. He got a gold glove for his efforts at second base. On May 2nd, Bret homered twice in the first inning, becoming the first Mariner to hit 2 homeruns in one inning. Also in that inning, him and Mike Cameron became the first teammates to ever hit back to back homeruns twice (actually, just to hit homeruns twice.. not even back to back) in the same inning. Boonie had an awesome September, trying to help his team to make it into the playoffs. He played even though he could barely walk. Bret Boone signed with the Mariners in the offseason. He made his major league debut with the Mariners and got his first hit/RBI off Arthur Rhodes vs. Baltimore. He was traded to Cincinnati for catcher Dan Wilson. Last year he became the first 2B to hit 3 home runs in a game twice. On May 11th in Cincinnati when he was on San Diego he hit 2 homers (including and inside the park home run) and his brother Aaron hit s home run too, becoming the first pair of brothers to hit homeruns against each other in a game, twice. They also did that in 1999. This year he has set career highs in literally everything. Het set a new AL record for RBI's in a season by a second baseman with 128, and he set a new record for home runs by a second baseman with 34 on September 7th. He was an All Star this year making him the first 3 generation family to be in the all star game (Grandfather Ray and father Bob also were in All Star Games). Bret finished third in the AL MVP voting behind Ichiro and Jason Giambi. He won a silver slugger award, and lead the league with 141 RBI's! His contract negotiations went slowly, but ended up signing a 3 year contract which could end up being 4 years. Bret Boone lives in Orlando, Flroida with his wife Suzi and their daughter Savannah and son Jacob. Bret has a brother, Aaron, on the Cincinnati Reds and his dad, Bob, is the current manager. He also has a brother, Matthew, in the Tigers organization and his Grandfather, Ray is a former Major Leaguer making him part of the first 3 generation family ever. Now there are 3 three generation families joining teammate David Bell and his family, and the Hairston family. |
