| Personality: Makai learned from his mother to not judge people by race but by inner character. It is single lesson that shaped his personality. Makai is very kind towards people he knows and, at least, attempts to get along with other races. As a ranger, he knows not to let anything go to waste. Makai is intelligent enough to know what's right and wrong and knows when to retreat. In the forest, Makai is at his most peaceful ...usually best described as a serene state of mind. He was fairly indifferent when he was taken to Hiketsu but he was shocked by the island and its people. |
| History: Makai's parents, Rick and Gisia, met fifty two years before he was born. Rick was a sentry at a small village and Gisia was traveling the world. The village was used to the sight of elves so no trouble was started. When Rick first saw Gisia, he was awe-struck and utterly speechless. He made various attempts to win her affection. Gisia, slightly naive to human ways, was confused by Rick's attempts. Gisia left the village a week later but she returned the very next year. Rick was still posted there. He eventually convinced Gisia to meet with him at the lake that night. She arrived and was overwhelmed by the amount of emotion Rick's voice had in it as he spoke. That's when she fell in love with him. The next year, Makai was born. He looked more human than elf but he possessed an elf's senses of sight and hearing. For the next twenty years, Rick taught Makai all he knew about combat while Gisia's brother, Hyne, taught him how to use a bow and arrow and how to survive in the wild. Rick was forty years old when he decided to fight in the war. He could have chosen to side with the humans or elves but because of how he looked, any elf that saw him would more than likely attack. Rick became a ranger and part of a scout team. He worked with two others, Cecil and Zeke. They never really talked much because of work. During one mission, Rick slipped and fell off the side of a cliff and landed in front of a female catling named Tia. She was a few inches shorter than he was and had a spotted coat with light brown hair. She took him back her village. Being pacifist, the villagers tended to his wounds. A few days later, the village witnessed a budding romance between Tia and Makai. However, things got complicated. Tia's brother refused to believe this and openly attacked Makai, who was forced to defend himself and ended up killing Tia's brother. The village looked down upon killing another so Makai was asked to leave. After that event, he decided not to fight anymore and began to live off nature as Hyne had taught him. One day, he located a boat. When he asked around, he discovered that it was going to Hiketsu. Makai figured 'what the heck' and went on board. |
