How to not break a K88!
There are several basic things to know
about operating these cameras:
DON'T change shutter speeds with the camera unwound.
DON'T force anything, if something doesn't move easily you're doing
something wrong.
DON'T try to remove the back with the darkslide removed.
DON'T touch the shutter when the back is removed, be careful!
DON'T store the camera without a back installed to protect the shutter.
DON'T pull out on the knob/crank while winding, slightly push in
instead.
DON'T release the shutter button until the shutter has completed it's
cycle.
IF a back becomes noisy/hard to wind, stop using that back.
IF the camera feels funny, try it with no back and see if that was the
problem.
IF you slightly depress the shutter and can't install the dark slide,
go ahead and waste a frame.
Get in the habit of always winding the shutter
right after each shot. This avoids accidentally changing the shutter
speed with the camera unwound and also protects a cloth shutter from
being burned by the sun through the lens.
The main thing to remember is the backs cause most
winding problems and the gearing can't take abuse. If you have
problems remember that forcing the camera will just end up breaking
something and will just cost more to repair later.
