Is MLU a good idea?

MLU  is something some people make avalible. Again there are two trains of thought here. Some feel it adds more complexity and therefore more chance of failure. The Hartblei returnable MLU (MLU-3) models had a special problem in that turning the shutter speed knob counter-clockwise would cause serious shutter damage. That would be something that most people could easily forget and do.  But MLU can be useful in my opinion and can allow the use of a lighter weight tripod if it's used. I'd avoid the returnable MLU models (they stopped making them because of this problem) and if you think you'd use it often, go ahead and get it. If you use a heavy tripod or shoot mostly handheld, I'd skip it as it is just one more thing that could cause problems.
