Changing Kiev60 Focus Screens

Under some special circumstances some Kiev60 users may want to change their focus screens for a different or perhaps a brighter after market screen.
The screen replacement is not hard at all to do and can be done at home with only the simplest of tools , so here is a description on how to do this easy job.

I will show just the disassembly of the screen parts as putting it back together is just the reverse process.
The only things to be watchful of is care to not loose any of the tiny hardware and when putting it back together to keep fingermarks from the screens.
Those soft jewellers gloves could come in handy if you can get a pair.

Also if the glass screen is of appreciably different thickness than what comes out , then a focus screen height adjustment may be in order , but this is most likely NOT needed in most cases.

The focus screen in the Kiev60

This is where we start , prism off looking down at the top screen.
We will be needing to remove the 4 tiny flat screws from around the top of this viewfinder well and then the 2 prism attachment lugs.
The screws should come out easily in the anticlockwise direction with the aid of a 2.0mm jewellers screwdriver.
The lugs don't have any  place to apply any spanner or screwdriver to so just a firm but gentle grip with the jaws of a pair of pliers should do the trick here.
Again , anticlockwise rotation to loosen them.
Take these away and put them somewhere they wont get lost , the screws are very tiny and if they fall into carpet they are gone forever.

Removed prism screws

The screws are out and we are ready to lift the finder well out.

tilting the screen well out

Remove the well and set it aside.
The finder well is retained under a lip at the rear so lift it up from the front , no real effort should be required.

Now will be revealed the retainers for the top screen.

The retaining screws

There are 3 retainers to be removed from around the edge , again , place them in a safe place.
