The wall still has light on it

Please forgive my bad pik above , it was hard to capture accurately with the digital camera what was easy to see with the naked eye in this case.

Even though the hood now does block light from angles greater than its shape allows I was still getting an area of illumination on the wall as shown above WITHIN the area highlighted.
Other areas lit up outside this area are actually false as they come from a reflection from the front of my silver digital camera , so don't look at them (sorry).

With the hood removed flare would have reduced gradually to nothing at about the 60cm mark , but with the hood in place I had the effect shown above right up to my practical test limits of 90+ centimetres from on axis. :-O

And the reason for this ??? Again .. a problem with the hood.

The surface of my hood was quite glossy , so what we are seeing above is a NEW reflection from the walls of the hood itself. GRRR

So in a brief summary what can I say about all of this ?

The hood that is supplied with the 80mm Arsat is not only USELESS at rejecting off axis light sources but it itself introduces flare and the image degradation that brings.

So what can we do with this factory hood now ?
