| You don't have to purchase an expensive water table to enjoy water table activities with your children. Use a medium sized plastic tote or a plastic sweater box is a nice sized container on a child sized table, or a plastic dish pan. Choose a container that best suits the contense you are going to dump in it. Don't over fill the container your using, leave enough space so not too much of the contense escapes onto the table and floor this will help with clean up later, but expect some of the contense to escape and DON'T get after the kids for normal spillage. Now for what to put into your water table. First of all supervise, supervise, supervise...don't put out a container full of sand or beans and walk away, some children will not only explore these things with their hands they will explore them with their mouths even older children...and some water table fillers should just not be used with children under 2 years old for obvious reasons. Some ideas for water table fillers are: water sand rice beans dried corn or other grains marbles (not for younger children) I have sets of foam numbers and alphabet letters that float nicely and be sure to add some props like cars trucks and boats, little people, dinosaurs-think about your theme and use your imagination, or just add some measuring cups or other cups and scoops. You can also play sink or float and experiment with objects to see if they sink or float. This is a good small motor activity, also can be a messy tactile activity and will be well received and enjoyed by the kids and grown up teachers who still love to get their hands into the fun. |
