| Children enjoy playing with magnets. It's a fun and easy science activity. Learning about attraction between the magnets and the metal objects they stick to like magic. Provide the children with magnets (they sell large horse shoe shaped magnets for $1 or less in a package of three) and metal objects (watch the size of these objects depening on the age of the children so they aren't swallowed) The children will explore all the objects you provide them with (include a few things that are made of plastic, wood, paper discuss how magnets only attract metal.) Soon the children will branch off into their own activities with the magnets experimenting on objects near them in the room to see what will stick and what wont. Use the alphabet shape magnets on your fridge as a double lesson, science with magnets and letter learning. There are a lot of fun shapes and different magnet sets sold these days, pick ones that match the themes you are working with if you can afford it, the kids will never get tired of playing with magents especially if you introduce new sets that go along with the themes you and your children are working and learning with. |
