Dramatic play
Provide children with a variety of props to use for dramatic play, they will need little guidance on how to use what you have provided for them.  Dramatic play is about their own creativity and enjoyment.
Dress up fun: I purchased halloweed costumes for our dramatic play area after halloween at 10 cents on the dollar and filled an old dresser (I repainted the dresser for day care use) Below are a few pictures of how the items have been used so far.  Pictured are Haley and Ryan.  In the red drawer are hats, wigs, belts, shoes and sun glasses.  The two bottom drawers are filled with costumes for boys and girls to experiment with.  I even found a few costumes that I reserved for special themes...for example I have (three of each) lady bugs and flower costumes for a theme on bugs or growing things or spring time fun.  I also have (four of each) princess and wizard (variety of colors) costumes...Haley is wearing one below.  We have 10 or so clown wigs in a variety of colors we could use for dramatic play during our theme on the circus "under the big top."
Grocery store and kitchen play areas can be made more exciting by offering the children real items to use for their play.  Save clean cereal and cracker boxes, kethcup bottles (washed well) and other box type items, use hot glue to reclose the boxes and set them up on shelves or in stacked crates for the children to use.
More to come soon....
