| 1. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should price my items? A general rule is to price your item at 1/3 or 1/4 of the original price. This isn't a garage sale, but you do want your items to sell. Ask yourself what you would want to pay for a similar item in a consignment sale. If you fell sentimental about an item, don't overprice it, keep it! Remember, customers are looking for steals, bargains, and really good deals at Kids Carousel. When pricing, consider the brand. Well-known brands, i.e.: Carriage Boutique, Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, Old Navy, Strausburg, HeartStrings, Mis Tee Vee Us, etc. will go for slightly higher prices than other brands. Of course, larger sizes should be priced higher than smaller sizes. If you have an item or two that you're unsure about (especially a large item, such as a stroller, Little Tykes outdoor toy, crib, etc.), go ahead and tag those items but leave the price off. When you come in for take-in, you can browse similar items already in stock and see how other consignors priced their things. Then you can price your item. 2. Do you have any tips for making my items more sellable? Sure - pressed clothes with all buttons, zippers, etc., in place sell best. Neatly printed and legible tags that give full descriptions help buyers know what they're getting. If you have a boxed item with many pieces that cannot be seen or a comforter set in a large bag that contains additional items, list the items on a 3X5 card and tape it next to the tag. Ziploc bags - Great because they're see-through. Use them to package Onesies (3 or 4 of one size per bag), teethers, rattles, Happy Meal toys, Barbie clothes and accessories, bows, anything with small pieces, or anything you want to stay clean. IMPORTANT: put strapping tape over the top of each Ziploc bag, so that no one can open it!! Tape the tag to the outside of the bag. 3. How can I package my items so they stay intact during the sale? Shoes - The best way to keep shoes together is to use cable ties going through the lace holes. Or do the same with curly ribbon for shoes that do not lace up...good luck!! Keep in mind customers will want their children to try on the shoes. You can try strapping tape or large safety pins. Toys with small pieces - Put all small pieces in a Ziploc bag and tape VERY securely to the large toy. For example - a kitchen the comes with food and dishes, or a dollhouse that comes with furniture. Strapping tape - this is your best friend; secure everything you can with it!! |
