 MOSES WATTS PROBATE FILE, Vigo County, Indiana:

A complete record of the administration and final settlement of the Estate of MOSES WATTS of the County of Vigo and State of Indiana deceased before AMORY KINNEY Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of said county at the October Term thereof in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

At a Probate Court in and for the County of Vigo began and held at the Courthouse in the town of Terre Haute on the Second Monday it being the thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six – present JOHN H. WATSON, Probate Judge.

Now here in open court comes THOMAS WATTS and LYMAN WATTS and apply to be appointed administrators of MOSES WATTS deceased and widow of said deceased now here in open court personally relinquishes her right to letters of administration and the said Thomas and Lyman having filed their bond in the sum off two thousand dollars with GIDEON DEVOL and WILLIAM COLLINS security which are approved of by the court a letter of Administration is granted them and is with the oath of administrators thereto annexed as in the words and figures as follows to wit:

I CHARLES J. NOBLE, Clerk of the Probate Court of the County of Vigo in the State of Indiana certify that Administration of Goods, Chattles, Rights, Credits, Moneys and Effects which were of MOSES WATTS late of said County Deceased who died intestate is granted unto THOMAS WATTS AND LYMAN WATTS. And the said Thomas and Lyman are authorized to Administer the same according to the law.

Witness my hand and the seal of the aforesaid Court this forteeth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-six. C. J. Noble, Clerk

State of Indiana, County of Vigo.

Be it remembered that on the fourteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six in open court and before the Judge of the Probate Court of Vigo County, Indiana came THOMAS WATTS and LYMAN WATTS and made oath that they would truly and forthfuly perform the duties and trusts committed to and required of them as administrators of the Goods, Chattles, Rights, Credits Moneys and Effects which were of Moses Watts late of Said County deceased.

In Testimony whereof I have subscribed name and affixed my seal of said court. C. J. Noble, Clk. Record Signed July 16, 1846.

And afterwards to wit at a Probate Court in and for the County of Vigo in the State of Indiana began and held at the Courthouse in the town of Terre Haute on the Second Monday it being the twelfth day of October, in the year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and forty six. Present JOHN H. WATSON, Probate Judge.

THOMAS WATTS and LYMAN WATTS Administrators of the Estate of Moses Watts deceased file an inventory of the personal estate of said deceased amounting to eight hundred and seventy-five dollars and thirty-eight cents which inventory is in the words and figures following to wit:

We JAMES W. SHATTUCK and JOHN F. MEYERS do solemnly swear that you will make a just and true valuation and appraisement of the goods and chattels and effects of MOSES WATTS deceased so far as they shall come to our knowledge. Subscribed to before me this 4th day of August 1846. Hiram Hight, JP

Also at the same time said administrators renders an account of the sale of said personal estate amounting to four hundred and sixty-eight dollars and eighty-four cents ($486.84) which is in the words and figures following to wit:

Account of Sale of the personal property of MOSES WATTS late of the Vigo County and State of Indiana deceased at public auction held at the late dwelling house of the said deceased on the fourth day of September AD 1846.

Estate of Charles A. Schaffer, deceased.

Petition for payment of money out of the County Treasury

To the honorable Conrad Schul Judge of Said court. Your petitioners herein, John S. HOCKETT, Katie HOCKETT, Adelaide HESTER, Mrs. Ellen ELAM, Mrs. Della G. DAVIS and Ethel SNIDER, respectfully represent to your Honor that Charles A. SCHAFFER, late of the county and State aforesaid, departed his life intestate on the 10th day of August A.D. 1883. That he left him surviving no wife, child or any descendant of child, but that he left him surviving as his sole and only heirs at law his brothers and sisters and their descendants.

That on Sept 29, 1883, petition for letters of Administration was filed in this Honorable Court, according to the prayer of said petition this Court appointed T. B. Lacey Administrator of the estate of said decedent. That bond was given approved by the Court and that said estate was administered under the directions of this court according to law.

That final settlement was made and that on the 29th day of April 1886 said Administrator filed his Final Report in the cause that said report was on said day approved by said court. That at the time of making said Final report, said administrator showed to this Court that he still had on hand for distribution the sums due certain of the heirs of said decedent and asked to be ordered to deposit said sums to the credit of the several heirs in the County Treasury of said County, as is by law provided. That it was so ordered and that he so deposited said funds and that the County Treasurer's receipt of date July 20, 1886 shows the following deposit.

Petitioners therefore pray your Honor to grant an order upon the County Treasurer of said County commanding him that he pay said sum of $51.76 so due these petitioners as aforesaid to them, or their attorney for them and accept receipt therefore.

SALE BILL OF THE

Estate of E. J. (Eliza Jane) (Shafer) Joy Deceased

(Transcribed from the probate record, Office of the Circuit Clerk, Jefferson County, IL. Eliza was daughter of Peter and Rebecca Shafer/Shaffer) She lived in Jefferson County around 1860 (Pendleton Twp) and then in the 1870's (Spring Garden Twp). Eliza died according to the probate file on September 18, 1874. The children living at the time of her death and listed in the file where Stephen William JOY m. Melissa MCCONNAUGHEY, Rebecca Ann JOY, Helen Adelaide JOY m. John S. HESTER, Charles JOY m. Lucy BUCK and Alice JOY and Phoebe Ellen McCURLEY m. C. L. FANCHER. ) Here deceased children were Thomas McCurley, Samuel Joy and James M. Joy. These children are buried in Campground Cemetery near Dudleyville in Bond County, IL.
