We all had a very nice Christmas. We hosted Christmas Eve after going to the 1st Church of Christ for the Christmas pageant. Bill, Donna and the boys and Mom and Dave and Gram were with us for dinner. The four boys were happy and a little nutty. They barely ate dinner and then we exchanged a few gifts and we finished preparations for Santa. I thought about Franklin a LOT this Christmas. It was a little weird feeling such a disconnect between the joy of being with the family that I love and missing the little boy that doesn't even know us yet. He is still in his world, and we are in ours but I think about him as much as I think about John and Ian.
So, it struck me on Christmas Eve that I needed to start writing directly to Franklin and to continue this journal as a way to update and keep track of our adoption steps. It was really nice to sit down after everyone had gone to bed and to start writing directly to our little guy. Some day he will naturally wonder about how we were feeling as we waited for him to join our family - - It really is so much like a pregnancy but without a "due" date and without the mystery of what he/she looks like. It is not physically draining but it is so much more mentally consuming. I've developed a small group of adoption friends whom I have never met in person...Shannon and Chuck who are adopting Ronaldo, LIsa who is adopting Daniel, June who is adopting Gabriella, Laura and Tim who are adopting Trinity, Shannon who is adopting Dulce, Michelle who is adopting Cena and Whilmer, etc. etc. it has become this little network of support. In addition, I have regular contact with several other mom's that I've connected with because they live in CT or they have a similar adoption scenario (two bio kids and adopting a 3rd). So - this is my pregnancy support group and all the discussion and preparation is completely different from what I experienced with John and Ian but it is all similar in that the goal is to bring a little boy into our family, safe and sound.
We go to Guatemala in 16 days!!!! I have LOTS to do...I've started my lists. I can not wait to get to Guatemala and to see Franklin!!!!!!!!!
