Just what is this so called "Kids' Cabaret" that your kids are all yacking about? Kids' Cabaret is an evening youth summer program in musical theatre based in Hingham, Massachusetts.� We welcome kids ages eight through sixteen to learn about the arts by putting on a musical production with us each summer.� Annually, we enlist the help of several young adults through age twenty-one to help us produce the show. � As Kids' Cabaret is "by kids for kids" the show is entirely staffed and directed by student volunteers. Parents are sometimes asked to help out selling baked goods at intermission, or chaperoning a rehearsal or two, but it is actually young adults who run this program! We've been doing this successfully now for 14 years.

ANY child ages 8-16 who can reach Hingham, Massachusetts to rehearse at least one night a week (Thursday) may try out for our show. There ares also rehearsals on Monday-Wednesday evenings for those cast as leads. We set an age minimum because, in order to rehearse, cast memebrs need some ability in reading, and an hour attention span. As we want to keep our shows younger than those of high school drama clubs, we cut off tryouts to those ages sixteen and under.�

If you think your child/teenager would be interested, please try-out for the show in early June. The show name and the tryout dates and information for each season are posted on the news and events section of the website by May 31 of each year.� In twelve of our thirteen past shows we have taken every child who has tried out. We started out as a small community theatre serving only Hingham to one that serves fifteen south shore communites from Duxbury to Randolph.� To help defray some of the costs of such things as rehearsal space, t-shirts, cast parties, and 4th of July parade participation, there is a small participation fee for cast members that is set each year by the show directors and producers.
