| A very long time ago, the world became so full of evil that God actually became sorry that he had ever created man. The bible says that the hearts of men were only evil all the time. So God decided he was going to destroy the whole earth with a great flood. But there was one man who found favor with God. His name was Noah, and he was a good man who loved God. So one day, God spoke to Noah and told him to build an ark, or a great boat. God instructed Noah exactly how to build the ark, and even told him what wood to use and how big it should be. God told Noah that he was going to send rain and flood the whole world. So Noah began to work on the ark, following God's instructions precisely. When it was almost time, God told Noah to gather two of every unclean animal, and seven of every clean animal; and load them all onto the ark. So Noah began to gather all the animals: two of every unclean and 7 of every clean, onto the great big ark. Then Noah gathered up his family and loaded them onto the ark. Then, God closed the door on the ark and sealed it so no water could get in. Suddenly, the skies began to darken from the clouds; and for the first time ever, it began to rain. The earth also opened up and water came from under the ground. For forty days and forty nights it rained and rained and rained. Soon the whole earth was under water, and only the ark; along with Noah, his family, and all the animals, were left. After some time, Noah decided he should look for land. He sent out a dove to find land. At first, the dove could find no land, and came back to the ark. Then, on the second trip, the dove came back with an olive branch. Finally, on the third trip, the dove never returned, and Noah knew that the flood was over. God told Noah to let all the animals go from the ark. When Noah got out of the ark, he built an altar and made sacrifices to God. Then something wonderful happened. God put a rainbow in the sky and promised never to destroy the earth by water again. The rainbow is our reminder of the terrible flood, and God's promise to never flood the whole earth again. |
