The midget was besieged by feelings that bordered on the paranoid as he crackled and crunched his way across the platform of Riggerswell station. People were always starring at him, indiscreetly pointing, whispering amongst each other before breaking out in unrestrained hysterics. Sometimes they strolled over and openly abused him, occasionally even resorting to more physical methods in expressing their loathing for what they most likely regarded as unsightly and alien. All this had induced in Stig the most mammoth of inferiority complexes: the looks of contempt, distrust, revulsion and reproach being almost palpable - Randy Newman's recent chart-topper 'Short People' blared in his head eternally. Yet his usual feelings of inadequacy were exacerbated much further by the decidedly unusual item clinging to him within his corduroys. He was overwhelmingly conscious of his nappy, for its absorbent core felt like an extremely fat bath towel wedged between his legs, causing him to walk with a well-defined waddle, and the plastic-backing was so noisy it gave the impression he was pootling along with a supermarket carrier bag taped about his person. Obviously not wanting anyone to be aware of it, he proceeded briskly, at least as fast as his Pampers would permit him, as he didn't want to grant anyone enough time to pause, reflect, and suspect the worse as they gazed incredulously at his bulging, bulky behind.
