| YOUNG HEART ATTACK - OVER AND OVER (single/ XL RECORDINGS) If The Darkness dudes are wholly deserving of all the nationwide critical acclaim thats been pelted their way (which they are), then reset your pace-makers once again and give it up for Young Heart Attack people! Stepping up the good old fashioned hard rock n roll cog yet another solid metal gear, these guys are ready to rock the world like never before as Over and Over re-writes the energetic rock song rules and regulations. Statuesque chainsaw guitar solos and backing vocals enter this song into a rollicking comp of anthems, while Sick of Doing Time reminds of Texan rock n rollers the Supersuckers (who, both bizarrely and tragically, seemed to disappear after some awesome shows in this country a couple of years ago so if anyone knows what theyve been upto in the meantime - Id love to know!). The pace relentless, the milli-second gap between the first two tracks near-impossible to detect, here and on heat, Young Heart Attack are most definitely rising to the challenge in providing the most envied soundtrack to life and love in the fastest and most potentially debauched of lanes. Taco Bail Bondo, burning up this livewire singles rear and more bluesy by nature, is another near-perfect example of how best to write pacy rock tunes that fit the void in place of bands like Guns n Roses when they were at their sharpest as Taco somehow reminds of the Guns You Could Be Mine. So the variety and originality may not be as compelling as this bands unbridled zest, and their upfront vibe may wear thin if this is the only type of hyperactive and over-excitable, high-pitched and shirt-ripping sound theyre set to produce, but if this band and these songs of theirs are taken on their own terms then nothing can be faulted. Because this truly fucking rocks like a rolling stone in Monument Valley. 5/5 (STEVE RUDD) Release date: 28th July 2003 www.youngheartattack.net www.xl-recordings.com |
