WE CAN BUILD YOU -
'COMPREHENSIVE DETAILS OF EVERYTHING'

(3-track demo/ 2002)

Respect.
We Can Build You are the first to admit they may be rubbish at playing, but they don't care. That's not important it's the attitude that matters.

Respect.

This young 5-piece buckle out a mammoth, distorted razzmatazz of noise that retorts against boredom, as 'Call Me What You Will' taunts with its recklessly skewed grunge punk sound that reminds of Babes in Toyland's, with a little inspiration from the free-wheeling guitar riffs that Mclusky and the Brazen Hussies smash out with no logic, order or care in the world..
Singer Ebony Amy is more angsty than angry, the jolting, rioting grrrly surge of Body Over Mind's sound scored by guitarist Richy, and Archie on 'noise guitar.' Noise guitar? Kewl.
By this point the most cynical and nigh impossible gits to impress may have turned off in disgust, but it's their loss once the final track 'In And Out' redeems this short-but-bitter 7-minute-long demo with honours. Reviving a classic Nirvana melody that bounces into a soaraway Hole-y chorus, 'In And Out' is all this band need to convince me. All they want to do is rock afterall, and while they're right to admit they aren't as technically talented as they'd like to be, you've got to bow down to their reassuringly, uber-enthused attitude to it all
Check out what We Can Build You have to say for themselves here, now and below

'Conviction is nothing without compassion. We have the arrogance to believe that a group of absurdly convicted, asocial misfits - half of whom can't play and whose aspirations are bigger than their abilities - can take a set of lyrics utterly lacking in lyricism and put them to music which doesn't fit into any particular category and that people will listen and see it as something worth believing in. Music alone can't change the world, but it can influence the people who do. And the world needs changing.
A band can't make a great practical difference, but if we make people listen, make people think, if we can challenge people's assumptions, get them to re-examine things and then re-build their ideas from a slightly altered and hopefully wider perspective, then maybe we can spark something off - maybe we can build something worthwhile out of our dissatisfaction.

Just being disillusioned isn't enough - you have to make something you can be satisfied with out of that feeling or you might as well have stayed blind. This is our attempt at justifying ourselves, at proving that all the soul-searching and questioning of everything was worthwhile, that what we've made of ourself is justifiable - that things don't have to be as they are. This is our something to hope for and believe in, something important enough to be worth living for. There's a freedom in being unable to care for the life presented to you as the one you should lead. If the things you risk losing mean nothing to you, then you really have nothing to lose.'

I couldn't have said it better myself. (*phew* - that took some typing out!).
