THE UNISEX PIGS AND THEIR FARMS
(single/ SHIFTY DISCO)

The Unisex, ominously, are all lads. There may be six of them and they may all sport fashionably long hair, but theyre most definitely NOT Cooper Temple Clause wannabes. The Unisex have a glorious Prog-indie-rock sound all of their own as the title track to this single testifies, as happy cattle is sung about, and subtle piano trickles, backing beats and pleasant acoustic guitar strums create an intoxicating mood thats so beautifully chilled-out that there is just one word to describe their music and thats heavenly.
Who knows if Pigs And Their Farms is Orwell-inspired (given his infamous Animal Farm novel in which a farms pigs shoo away their farmer and run the farm on their own backs), their Archive remix of the track is wondrously experimental, sounding somewhat Post-Trance in epic style.
With this material produced by James Spencer (who has previously worked with The Charlatans), the b-side live favourite Mushrooms and Broccoli is just as refreshingly inoffensive, taking up a Thrills-esque slow-pace, soothing for The Unisexs skill in bringing forth such soaring melodies and harmonies. Bands such as The Beach Boys and The Byrds would inevitably be proud
